Jetstar are having a Sale linked to Australia's First innings run score (http://www.jetstar.com/pdf/news/20061122.pdf).

The more runs the Aussies make in the first innings the more seats available. Currently they are 1/91, if they were all out for 250, then 250 StarClass seats will be available for $250 inclusive oneway from Oz to anywhere StarClass goes. Normal rates apply for the various seating classes on the return.

Here's a synopsys:Sports mad Australians given the chance to score low international fares To celebrate Jetstar’s inaugural long haul international flight to Bangkok on 23 November and the start of the Test Series between England and Australia, Jetstar will spread the cheer amongst all Australians and cricket fans in particular by offering exclusive fares on international StarClass to JetMail members. ...

... Jetstar is supporting the Australian team in style by offering StarClass fares, Jetstar’s business class, and ticket numbers according to how many runs Australia scores in the first innings of the First Test. In the last series against England, Australia averaged 277 runs in each of its first innings. So, if Australia scores 277 runs Jetstar will sell 277 StarClass (Jetstar’s business class) fares at $277 one way to any of Jetstar’s international destinations (inclusive of surcharges, fees and taxes). Return fares will be offered at Jetstar’s regular, all day every day low fares. And customers will be able to choose economy or StarClass for their return journey ...

... available exclusively to JetMail members. Jetstar’s JetMail members are always the first to know about Jetstar news and are regularly sent exclusive sale offers. To become a JetMail member visit Jetstar.com to register for the promotion. ...

... This sale is available from 0900 hrs Tuesday, 27 November 2006 by booking on Jetstar - Cheap Flights, Low Fares all day everyday from Australia's newest Cheap Fare airline (http://www.jetstar.com) via an email link sent exclusively to Jetmail subscribers on Monday 27 November 2006. AKL/MEL QF134 and QF39 flights and AKL/BNE QF115 and QF116 flights are affected.

Also, the AKL/BNE QF125 and QF126 will go to a daily service operated mainly by JetConnect. I would guess this is because of the reduced capacity of QF115/QF116; not such an issue for MEL due to QF25/QF26.

I was trawling through the QF site looking for the Travelex information and I came across this.
http://www.seesydney.com/default.aspx?PageID=1286
This year marks the 75th birthday of Sydney's famous icon, the Sydney Harbour Bridge. To celebrate, Tourism NSW in partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club have some very special exclusive offers in Sydney for Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club members.

Until August 2007, Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club members will be able to take a guest along to a selection of Sydney's finest restaurants, attractions and events for free*.

Participating partners include the Australian Ballet, Art Gallery of NSW, harbourkitchen&bar at Park Hyatt Sydney, Captain Cook Cruises and the Sydney Opera House to name just a few.

So take some time out this autumn or winter to explore Sydney and its distinct style; from its dynamic dining scene and exciting attractions, to its artistic flair. For full details, see below.

There are some good deals there and all the more reason for me to go home to SYD;)

Shortest trans-Tasman scheduled QF flight is actually SYD-ZQN at 1,207 miles, but not subject to sale. As Aus_Mal points out, shortest on the sale must be SYD-CHC which is a whole 20 miles shorter than SYD-AKL.

I've booked a Fri out, Sat back trip for myself in Feb. Should be a nice chance to check out the museums (only about 5 1/2 hours though!), have a few beers with some locals and 'relax' in the mid 30 degree weather. Now to decide where to stay. Have a thread on AFF trying to decide :D

Yep. Same deal as the last super sale to Longreach. I presume the Sun night flight ends up with a lot of business people/late bookings and they don't want to discount the valuable seats.

As I said earlier in this thread, it's a real pity. Didn't want to stay 2 nights at Longreach, so I'm there ~12pm to 9am. Weather, late plane etc could easily ruin the plans to visit the 2 museums as they both close at 5pm (but are basically at the airport). Unlikely, but still possible that the plane goes tech on the way back meaning a longer unplanned stay!

Still looking for good accomodation. If you have any suggestions, PM me, or post on the thread at AFF!

Did a drive out to Longreach last year, just for something to do.

Stayed at the Longreach Motel, in the main street of town. Comfortable and clean, most other choices are old pubs and caravan parks.

A very good Chinese Restaurant about 150m from the motel, with some of the best chinese food I have found in QLD!!!

Didn't make the 3 museums (Qantas, Stockmans and School of the air) as we spent the whole time at the Qantas museum.

I can strongly recommend the 'wing walk' tour of the 747.

Sorry, I missed that. All I could see was that South America was back on the cards. Their last foray into SA was to BA and that didn't seem to work too well for them eventually going to code share with Aerolineus Argentinas.

It's interesting that they are taking on LA directly, especially as they are a OW partner. Maybe they are unhappy with the arrangement as it is.

Or maybe they just see it as a growth area. LA has gone from what 3 a week to 6 currently (and daily later this year).

The QF service SYD-EZE-SYD was also code shared with AR. My one flight on that route was absolutely full in all cabins both ways. Based on these two flights, I cannot possibly see how QF had any problems at all with it .. :) .

When did QF leave?
Was it after the SA meltdown that predated the Asian crisis?
I do not think that QF will be daily at the start as the 747-400 (2 class?) is a large jump in capacity for that route, even though it is hard and expensive to get seats to SA.
I just hope that LA do not get rid of the AKL-SYD service, that would be tragic for me.

No they have just migrated to the QF NZ site. I received the QF email and thought that their new prices are actually quite expensive, but I hardly travel QF Y Trans-Tasman anymore, then I noticed that the $199 seemed to be on the QF NZ site and they are in NZD.:)
As is often the case that you can get cheaper QF flights if you do not originate in Australia. Evidence also points out that this is common to all carriers where it can be cheaper to book the same tickets if you are out of their home market.

As inferred above, earlier this week I booked a flight for myself and mrs serfty AKL to ZQN, this was on QF4191.

Lo and behold, I have just received another email from them advising of a change to the flight number as per the above title.

I have checked and from Sunday October 28th, there is to be a restructuring of Jetconnect New Zealand Domestic flights.

At the moment a query on Qantas.com it really seems to be in a state of flux at the moment as I can't even find QF2791 on the timetables. (Manage Your Booking does show us booked on QF2791)

Qantas has cancelled the DRW-DPS route from October - got a friendly phone call from them today in relation to my flight booked on the route in December. No reaccommodation yet, methinks they're waiting to see if they can settle a deal with Airnorth to take over the route before they finalise the flights. Cheap MEL-PER-MEL Flights available on the AFL Grand Final weekend flying out of MEL on the 28/09/07 and returning on 01/10/07. I picked up a round trip for under $318 including all taxes. QF have put a heap of extra capacity on for that weekend, assuming the WCE would be through to the finals I guess.

There are 4 or 5 extra flights on with QF12xx type flight numbers on those days. Not published anywhere that I know of, but i've seen it in previous years. Books into O class.

They've been around since late July; see post #360 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8146431&postcount=360) of this thread.

The scheduled times of the flights that have availability for those fares are quite poor IMO.

Ooops my bad. Went back one page too few :) I got semi reasonable flights, getting in around 11pm to Perth and leaving there on the monday getting back to Melbourne around 12:30. not ideal but for the price, I am not complaining ^

The WA folks seem to be so nuts about football that I think there will still be a fair easterly flow even if there is no WA team playing.

The PPT fare isn't that good.

Yet more jetconnect schedule changes. The WLG-AKL and AKL-WLG schedules now look a bit odd - I'd expect some days QF will combine 2 flights into 1 :( I got a voicemail message saying to call. On calling I was asked which itinerary. I said I wasn't informed of any specific itinerary but I'm guessing I have several affected ones. Sure enough, there were.

Check your itins as some changes caused misconnects and they had not identified these.

Yes all my SC runs for the $38 sale are dead. I had a few booked 19:30 WLG-AKL with the 21:00 AKL-WLG now affected as they have moved my 21:00 to 20:00 so I will still be in the air.
And one was my birthday flight!

Need some research and call QF to fix this.:(

QF should rebook at no charge, regardless of availability of O (note this is different to their weather/other reason disrupt policy). If there are no QF flights that work within a reasonable time frame, ask to be put on Air NZ. If you can, try to make the changes at the airport sales desk. The Australian call centre sometimes is unreasonable in my experience and may force you to get a refund.

Keep in mind that OZ-DPS departures include a whopping great Airport Tax ($30 odd out of Sydney I think?). Whereas departures from DPS you pay the tax on departure (though a more reasonable Rp100,000 - or $13's worth). So that accounts for most of the difference.

The prices are the same - only the URL above shows the ex taxes/etc prices, where the "normal" URL shows the inc taxes/etc.

Yet more schedule changes for jetconnect (QF domestic in NZ). Lately every week I have several bookings affected by these changes - some fairly trivial but others not so (had some with impossible connections). QF not as good at advising of schedule changes as it used to - eg I get an email advising one particular itinerary has had a schedule change, but under my bookings when I check each one I see that several itineraries have been impacted.

Jetstar to grow low fare flights between Melbourne and Perth

Special web sale* fares from $49 at Jetstar.com (*Conditions apply)

Australia’s low fares airline Jetstar will expand to double daily operations on the high demand Melbourne – Perth route corridor from 15 November 2007 to meet existing market demand by introducing a direct evening service to Perth from Melbourne Airport.

Jetstar currently serves the Melbourne to Perth market with a daily direct A320 service departing each afternoon from Melbourne Avalon Airport, and the additional capacity represents the next phase in the growth of the carrier’s branded operations in Western Australia.

Jetstar is the only Australian domestic airline to currently operate from two airports in the one capital city, and its two airport strategy in Melbourne has supported strong growth in passenger volumes to and from Victoria since commencing in May 2004.

Bureau of Transport and Regional Economics data for the year to July 2007 has identified the Melbourne – Perth route as one of the nation’s fastest growing markets, rising 14.6 per cent compared to the year to July 2006 and supporting an existing 1.5 million yearly passenger movements.

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce said the airline had sought to consolidate its presence on the Melbourne – Perth route in response to existing strong market demand and to maintain its low fares leadership position in this growing flight market.

Mr Joyce said existing 177 seat configured A320 aircraft based at Melbourne Airport, one of its largest domestic operations, would support the new ‘overnight’ return service between Melbourne and Perth.

Jetstar has launched its new Melbourne – Perth daily service from Melbourne Airport with special one way web sale* fares available at Jetstar.com from $49 for a limited period.

The special web fares are available between 6pm (18:00) AEST and midnight (11:59) AEST on Tuesday 2 October 2007 unless seats sell out prior. The special fares are available at Jetstar.com.

The special offer is available for travel between 15 November and 15 December 2007 excluding Fridays and Sundays. (Conditions apply).

Jetstar’s every day web fares between Melbourne Airport and Perth will start from $149 at Jetstar.com.
Mr Joyce said the Qantas Group had acquired nine additional A320s for Jetstar to be introduced between December 2007 and March 2009.

He said in the second half of the 2008 calendar year Jetstar would consolidate all its direct Melbourne bound services to Perth from Melbourne Avalon Airport, supported by a second A320 aircraft based at Melbourne Avalon.

“Jetstar has greatly enhanced its competitive offering on the Melbourne – Perth market to better meet existing demand and provide consumers more flexibility and choice within the Qantas flying network,” Mr Joyce said.

“As the low fares leader in Australian skies our new daily service between Melbourne and Perth will, through our superior cost base and growing fleet utilisation, help drive lower costs and better sustain lower fares.

“Demand for our existing daily service between Melbourne Avalon Airport and Perth continues to exceed expectations. Our aim is always to sustainably grow operations on any market that responds to our presence and continued growth on the route has been projected.”

Jetstar will operate to Perth daily from both Melbourne and Melbourne Avalon Airports and the low fares carrier will clearly identify the departure points for each of its daily services between Melbourne and Perth through its major booking channels including Jetstar.com, Jetstar Telephone Reservations and Travel Agents.

Mr Joyce said both daily Jetstar services between Melbourne and Perth had different departure times, flight numbers and travel itineraries that would clearly distinguish the departing/arriving airport and terminal for all Jetstar passengers.

By example the flight numbers for Jetstar’s daily return Melbourne – Perth service are published JQ 970 and JQ 971, whilst the Melbourne Avalon – Perth daily return flights are numbered JQ 652 and JQ 653. Additional information on these services will also be available on the airline’s popular website at Jetstar.com.

“The timing of the new Jetstar overnight service between Melbourne Airport and Perth compliments our existing daily service between Melbourne Avalon and Perth and offers our customers even greater choice on this popular flying market,” Mr Joyce said.

“It also continues our commitment to drive growth out of Victoria and our desire to grow Jetstar’s presence in Perth ahead of further domestic and possible international growth opportunities from Western Australia in coming years.”

From 15 November 2007 Jetstar will operate at least 220 return domestic services each week collectively from Melbourne Airport and Melbourne Avalon Airport, situated between Victoria’s two largest cities of Melbourne and Geelong.

Note*
For Jetstar domestic flights to/from Australia AUD / NZ $2 per passenger per flight segment will be added to fares paid by credit or charge card. Telephone bookings attract additional amounts. Travel Agents may charge more. More details at Jetstar.com

instead I booked

That price is ridicoulously cheap as I recall the cheapest before was when Qf started the route and it cost 3800HKD (or around) excl tax.

What are the restrictions on the tix and can you upgrade using BA Miles (or CX miles assume it is etix.)
Seriously consider this as an alternative to my 18000-22000HKD I Class return on CX (via TPE)

as per my post above... I was able to MFU (Miles for Upgrade) with BA on a WT+ fare that was in their summer special sale ($1490AUD return Inc).

As long as you book the fare on the BA site and it does not have a big red D for dicount, you can upgrade.

another way of searching is to log in with your BA number and then do a search for book and upgrade.... you can then get J confirmed at time of booking if avail.

No 127/128 SYD/HKG/SYD? Yes, that sounds correct, at the moment the SYD-HKG-SYD flights are turn-around flights, and do not continue anywhere, unlike MEL-HKG-MEL which are through routed to LHR. Since the intention is to offer Y+ to LHR, it is therefore available MEL-HKG.

To celebrate the announcement of more services and more aircraft including a fleet of Airbus 321s (subject to regulatory approval), we're having a 321 sale - that's 3 cities at 2 for 1 prices!
Be part of the celebration, and grab some 2 for 1 fares today.

Cairns to/from Melbourne $199 for 2 people - that's $99.50 each.

Cairns to/from Sydney $169 for 2 people - that's $84.50 each.

Search for two passengers within the travel period and our booking system will show the available sale fares per person at half price. Fares must be booked in pairs.

Hurry, this sale ends at 4pm (AEDT) Wednesday 28 November 2007, unless sold out prior.

For travel on selected flights between 8 April - 29 May 2008, excluding school holidays and public holidays.

Fares are one way, web only. Jetsaver conditions apply. For all payments by credit or charge card, an additional $2 will apply per passenger per domestic flight sector booked. Fares are non-refundable and name changes are not permitted.

I see the newspaper advertisements from Travelworld and Jetset offering 100,000 QFF points with Economy bookings to Dublin, Rome, London and Paris, for flights 4 October - 11 November 08.
Not bad if it happens to match up with travel plans next year. Hope some Early Bird manages to benefit!

I did a double-take too! The travel section of Weekend Australian, in two separate advertisements from the agencies. Both saying 100,000 i.e. more points then needed to book a seat to London!
Either two mistakes, or that's some Early Bird deal...

They quote LHR for $1471 with $300 land credit and the points, though the QF site prices at $1969 for 4/10/08- 11/11/08. Not sure about the other destinations. I can't see any requirement to book tours either.
And I note both adverts are from Jetset-Travelworld, so really only one source not two.

No mention of 100,000 QF points on offer, which would be an amazingly good deal if true.
