US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-2005 America West merger) - Gaurenteed Seating for CP Question

I know CP's can get booked on sold out flights. Are they allowed to have a travelling companion fly with them on the sold out flight? Would the CP and the companion be seated next to eachother or is the actual seat assignment unknown. Last question, are CP's still eligible to upgrade when doing this? Thanks!

I don't believe there is any provision for availability for another person - just the CP member. Normal upgrade rules apply.

It is only for the CP and is booked in full Y.
Must be booked 24 hrs in advance.

It looks good on the list of benefits but in reality it's not much. You have to buy a full Y ticket and they hardly ever run out of those. They'll happily sell as many of them as you'd like to buy and bump as many people as they need to in order to do so.

That kinda sucks. I know 1K's on United can have gaurenteed seating for themself and a companion. I do most of my flying out of CAE so seating is very limited and I'm already planning my Thanksgiving trip. I need to be in DC for a Black Tie with my date Tuesday night but I have classes Tuesday afternoon that I cant miss. My preferred flights are already sold out.

The flight is actually sold out and they are not selling full Y fares? Called the chairman's desk. I think if you pay full Yx2, they will have a seat for you and your companion.

Yes, but technically, a seat will only be guaranteed for the CP flyer.

Tom,
I agree it rarely happens, but it was three times this year alone on US. And twice on NW as a Pltm. With flights ... full as they have been this summer I am sure is the reason. One of the flights was out of SYR on the Friday of spring break, no airline had seats, so this was a good benefit

I used it once. Came in handy and the instant upgrade into the P fare bucket is a nice benefit too ^
US should be pleased to sell to Y tickets. If they won't do it ask them to call inventory and they should allocate another!
