SAN FRANCISCO -- Sports games, concerts and a car race will combine Friday night to create what one California Highway Patrol sergeant called "a perfect storm" of traffic in the Bay Area.

Sgt. Wayne Ziese recommended that those planning to attend Friday night's San Francisco Giants game, Oakland Raiders game, San Francisco 49ers game or the Tom Petty concert in Berkeley take mass transit. There is also a public practice session for this weekend's grand prix auto race at Infineon Raceway on state Highway 37 in Sonoma.

All of the events except the race practice begin sometime around 7 p.m., putting them in conflict with the evening commute. The all-day practice goes through 5:30 p.m.
