I am a new Gold Card holder, but have been with AMEX (DL Skymiles PLAT and BLUE) since 1997. (The member since date on my new Gold Card is 97 as well.)
My question is in regards to the "no pre-set spending limit". I do not plan to charge anything that I won't pay off in full, but in the fine print it says that AMEX may decline charges based upon a number of factors. When I called them about this, they said something about they approve charges "up to the limit we feel comfortable with the customer." They went on to say since I was "new" that the were only relying on my credit report, so after a few months my "limit" would increase over time.
So, (1) I have excellent credit and (2) has anyone had charges decline on these "no pre-set spending limit" cards? I find it odd that there is no "limit," yet AMEX over the phone was telling me how to get the nonexistant "limit" increased over time. They never mentioned what the limit was. Thanks.
