I noticed that US has lots of promos and offers for DM members. That could all be changing.

As HP's mgmt will be taking over, one can expect to see the same cheapskate mentality in the newly combined program. HP used to have some great promos, like a 3000 miles online booking bonus, but not anymore.

Take a look at the following link.

America West Promotions (http://www.americawest.com/awa/content/frequentflyer/mileagepromotions/awapromotions.aspx)

This is the same sorry a$$ed pathetic promo that's been running most of the year. They even have the nerve to list the 500-mile ( ) online booking bonus as a mileage promotion.

For DM members that are thinking about joining the club, better do it now. HP rarely(I mean rarely) gives miles for joining the club. I only remember it happening once since I've been flying HP(11 years).

What promos? US hasn't offered any really good preferred mile promos all year. The 1,000 mile booking bonus doesn't add up to anything.....what happened to all the double and triple mile promos of the last few years? Seems to me like the good promos are already gone.

In my experience, the best promos come at the end of the year. Last year was amazing, and I'm hoping something similar happens this year.

Airlines don't need promos to fill planes in August. November - February (aside from the few peak holidays) is a different story.

HP has no promos even during that period.

US promised lots of promo during the anniversery year.

It has been a MAJOR bust.

Then again, most preferred, especially CP, don't get targetted anyways.

Forget about the crap about not neeeding to target that group, it still is a bummer.

I just got a promo in the mail from HP and I have not flown them in several years. They said if I sign up for news and move my flight fund to my E box I will get 250 bonus miles. I think US is 1k? I can't remember. And then you can be entered for 250k miles with HP.

I have not seen a promo in a while myself.

There hasn't been anything since the 25,000 mile promo that I didn't get much out of (came at a bad point in the year). I've been holding out on booking flights for late Oct. and in Feb. in hopes that a good booking promo will come along. Maybe I shouldn't hold my breath

Byrd,

I wouldn't be so quick to judge the likelihood of new promos in the new USAirways. HP has traditionally been dueling with WN in the less than full service carrier markets.

This is a whole 'nother ballgame. I expect to see pretty generous promos going forward as management roles out the new airline and seeks to attract new business. The whole of this airline will be much greater than the parts and this has got to be marketed.

For me, the best promo that the new US Airways could offer would be better pricing when purchasing (or trying to purchase) a ticket close to the travel date. I have had to choose different carriers over the last couple of months because flights from other airlines were $150-$1,000 more on US. Three weeks out, they are priced like everyone else. For my destinations, once I get inside of 2 weeks, US prices itself out of the market. I understand they've reduced their capacity and this is just a fuction of their pricing model, but $1000 more?! They've got to offer some great mileage bonuses for me to pay that much more.

I don't know....I remember some really good promos in Jan./Feb./March of years past. Maybe they were targetted--I can't remember. All I know is my husband and I are both CP and neither of us has been targetted for anything in over a year. We are probably not going to make it to CP next year without a few good promos so I really hope your prediction is accurate!!!!

Same ballgame just a bigger field.

Trust me, HP will be seriously looking to cut costs as they battle WN in the east. That will be their driving motivation when they start cutting the fat out of US and DM.

One of the ways HP slimmed down was to 'cull the mileage herd'. No promos, no substantial online booking bonuses at the same time reducing the Silver/Gold/Plat bonuses to 25/50/100% down from 50/100/125%. They were looking to reduce the amount of outstanding miles people had, and HP even admitted so.

Maybe there will be one promo initially, but HP specializes in being cheap so I wouldn't expect a string of offers afterwards. Heck, even WN is cutting back on promos.

I think a big part of the reason HP hasn't done much in the way of promos recently is simply because they haven't had to. They're filling their planes up without enticing frequent flyers with mileage promos -- so they don't do them.

The situation with the old US, however, will be very different. They will be in the business of trying to bring back a lot of customers who have left them in disgust in recent years. They'll also be very focused on not losing the business they have, much of it at significantly higher per-mile fares. Both will require a lot of marketing and, I believe promos. I look for some serious promos in the first 12 months. Once they get things turned around and begin filling the planes, then I suspect it will be like the HP promo days of late -- slim pickin's.

I am with Byrd on this one. It seems like the US flies are thinking HP is going to be turning into US when actually I am thinking it will be the other way around. Remember the new US is going to be a LCC and I am guessing there will be major cuts on the US side to make the new US look more like the current HP.

I really hope I am wrong and there are some great promos and also similar opportunities as there are now for MR's on US. This would make me quite happy!!
