US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - cp ta vouchers - how do they work?

I recently made CP. I am considering going to London this November and wondered how my ta vouchers will work. I know I have to buy certain class fare and I did see a good price on q fares.
When buying a q fare is it a confirmed upgrade or is it a waitlist? If a waitlist do you only know at the airport if you are upgraded? Or is it 7 days prior like domestic?
I will have a companion and understand the voucher covers the companion also. Are they confirmed (or not) in the same process?
I have used search and have not found the answer to this particular question.
Thanks

Welcome to FT! You can upgrade a Q fare; however, that will wait until the 7 day window. If there is R inventory at the 7 day window you and your companion will be upgraded. If there are not 2 R seats neither of you will be upgraded. At this point you will most likely not clear until the airport on the day of departure. You can try calling 3 days out. Often at 3 days if there are seats but no R inventory the agents have called inventory to open a seat or 2, but YMMV. If you are willing to buy a Y or B (and there are some reasonable B fares) the ticket is upgradable immediately if there is R inventory. I just did this last week. The fare difference between a 7-day upgradable fare and a B was less than $200 and since I only have 2 DMUTAs the other ticket was upgradable for only 20K miles RT as opposed to 60K for an M, H or Q. In order to book a cheaper B fare you will have to call the International desk, but there is no ticket fee for a CP. For some reason the "award winning" website will always price the cheapest fare and won't let you access the B fare. Also, when you call especially if you are buying a B fare verify that there are seats available for upgrade. You may need to be a little flexible with your dates and/or be willing to fly to LGW from either PHL or CLT. PHL has the very desirable Envoy Lounge; however, maybe this is just my experience, but I have much more luck upgrading immediately from CLT. And on those certificates your domestic upgrades can clear immediately if there is P availability instead of E (where e-upgrades are used). If not you will use the regular 7-day CP window. I know this is a lot of information PM me if you have any questions.
