It's been a few years since I was in BKK. I'm planning a trip and stayed at the Hilton Lai Nert. Some posts indicate that some people didn't like this place, but I thought is was well run, and had great staff, especially on the executive level. While rooms were "small" I consider this a plus. Also, compared to the block hotels, the security here and potential damage caused by truck bombs is substantially less.

What happened to the property? It's not listed as available on the Hilton/ HHonors reservation site?

This property is no longer a Hilton, but a Swissotel. After the renovation, it's a very "hip" property, but I still don't like it as much as I like the Conrad.

It was sold a couple of years ago. Now the Nai Lert Park, a Raffles International Hotel.

Hilton is currently in the process of refurbishing the “sinking tower” in Bangkok. This is supposed to open early 2006 under the Hilton Millennium brand. This building is located just across the river from the Shangri-La and Oriental hotel.
Construction status here (http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=229269).
