Hilton HHonors - any recent comments on San Antonio Homewood Suites would be appreciated

Could not find any recent posts re this property. Considering a one night stay in San Antonio with some friends over labor day weekend - purely for fun purposes - not business related. Sharing a 2 bedroom suite at Homewood is about same price per person as seperate rooms at Hampton - not very familar with San Antonio. Any recommendations pros/cons between these two properties? Since they work out to about the same price, would prefer the nicer, better located property for touristy activities.

Thanks!

The Riverwalk/Downtown HS would be a better bet. It is right on the Riverwalk, although it's removed from all the 'happening' areas, being on the Southwest extremity of the Riverwalk. The breakfast/evening reception area has floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the river and it can also be wall-to-wall people on weekend mornings, so be prepared. Although it is in a old 1920's pharmaceutical factory, you really can't tell it when you're inside- everything is modern. All the historical preservation is on the exterior.
This may not be exact- I'm just going on my memory- but it's about a 5 or 6 block walk to the Alamo, which is on the opposite side of the touristic downtown area. Hard Rock Cafe is a block and a half away.
They charge quite a bit for valet parking (there is no self-park) but you can save a few $$ by using the parking garage that is across and just down the street about 1/4 of a block. I think you would enjoy the overall stay at the HS instead of the HI.

I'll second the vote for the Homewood Suites Riverwalk. We were there a couple years ago for the Alamo Bowl and really enjoyed the location and the hotel.

Although the Homewood Suites is on the outer edge of River Walk, it's a very pleasant walk along the river to all the tourist sites, restaurants, etc. The Hampton might be a little closer to the Alamo...but it's not along the river (the river seems more like a wide, shallow canal to me) and probably a bit further from all the other stuff.

We didn't check out the two bdrm suites but the one bedroom was good-sized, clean and quiet w/comfortable beds and a well-equiped kitchen. The reception area is great (tho' can be crowded) and, at least when we were there, had serve-yourself frozen margaritas (that might explain the crowds for the evening reception!).

I would definitely choose the Homewood again.
