We just returned from a trip to Myrtle Beach and Charleston. Stayed at the Doubletree in Charleston - very nice. The location is excellent, right in the historic district. As Diamond we were upgraded to a one bedroom suite on the top floor, and given full breadfast buffet coupons. As an older building there may be some small basic rooms, but our suite was great :)
The night before flying home we stayed at a Hampton in Myrtle Beach at Broadway at the Beach. Nice place to stay if you're not staying on the beach (we'd done that earlier in the trip). Lots of restaurants, shopping and nightlife right at your doorstep. This is an eight story, beautiful Hampton. If it had a full service restaurant it would be nicer than some Hiltons I've seen. Upon asking, we were upgraded to a large jacuzzi suite on the top floor with a balcony. Only eight rooms in the place have a balcony ^
For our four nights on the Ocean I'd tried to get into the Hampton or Hilton but their prices were prohibitive so we stayed at an independent property which was very nice - got a one bedroom suite with full kitchen for less than a standard room at the Hilton properties.
