The Hilton Suites in Auburn Hills is very nice - I highly recommend it.

Where are you going? By your post I would guess you are going to the Dream Cruise. You could spend hours driving around the Detroit Metro area going from your hotel to your activity, so it is really dependent on exactly where you are going.

2nd The Hilton Suites in Auburn Hills, a lovely property in a very quiet area. In the middle of nowhere, way up 75.

Best Hilton property in downtown Detroit is the new HGI. It's in a great neighborhood, within walking distance of the stadiums, Greektown, casino, riverwalk etc. Actually, I'll be staying there this weekend.

There is a Hilton and Embassy Suites right in Southfield. I have not stayed at either, but a board search will help you, or check Trip Advisor.

The Hilton Southfield is a decent, but a rather standard (nothing fancy) hotel. It is fine for a business stay, but if you're there for pleasure it is not somewhere that you want to spend a lot of time in your room. It's a pretty typical hotel room, even on the "Exec Level." It's a category 2 for rewards, so that tells you something.

Instead, I'd suggest the Westin Southfield, a few miles down the road. I didn't stay there because they were sold out, but from the looks of it the hotel is a little more upscale and nicer.
