I can't believe this is coming from the top of TSA but here it is:

Airline Security Changes Planned
Threats Reassessed To Make Travel Easier for Public

The new head of the Transportation Security Administration has called for a broad review of the nation's air security system to update the agency's approach to threats and reduce checkpoint hassles for passengers.

Edmund S. "Kip" Hawley, an assistant secretary of homeland security, directed his staff to propose changes in how the agency screens 2 million passengers a day. The staff's first set of recommendations, detailed in an Aug. 5 document, includes proposals to lift the ban on various carry-on items such as scissors, razor blades and knives less than five inches long. It also proposes that passengers no longer routinely be required to remove their shoes at security checkpoints.

I find it very interesting that all the TSA haters that jump on any thread that points out the agencies stupidity, and yes, there are many, did not post anything here. hmmmm.....

Maybe because it's already all over the TSS forum

Alternatively it could be part of a grand conspiracy...

Because the TSA has a long tradition of lying, I refuse to get excited about anything they claim to be an improvement until I actually see some proof of it. Their management has not only subjected the traveling public to policies that are nothing but passenger harassment, but has lied to the public repeatedly since its inception. Mark Hatfield, their Minister of Propoganda, is about as credible as the former Iraqi Information Minister.

I think that everyday when TSA personnel show up for work, they should be made to undergo the most onerous screening practices thay have in place. And notice I said practices, not rules, since they seem to vary by airport and even within airports.

Maybe if they went through a daily ritual of the shoe carnival, bag search, cavity search, etc. they might get a clue as to what is useful vs. what is simply a time consuming nuisance.
