Take a look at the Home Buying section of the Finance page of my website below.

If you can find a agent who will rebate his/her commission (i.e. of 1% of sale), then you will likely come out ahead over taking miles. On average, an agent gets 3% of sale and at least in Northen VA, it's not that difficult to find an real estate broker who is willing to rebate his/her commission...

Getting miles is nice but do not rule out cash rebate option if available...

My 2 cents...

a couple of possible places we may relocate.....

one has a very reputable agency who rebates 2% if purchase price >500K, 1.5% if purchase price >400K, and .5% if purchase price >200K

so far the only rebate i can find in our LIKELY relocation city is 1% IF the agent only shows us 7 houses, or .5% if they show us up to 14 houses. >14 houses = no rebate! I like the rebates at the other city better (as we're looking in the $425k range)!

if anyone has an agent they'd recommend in the Denver area (who rebates) I'm all ears!
