I ran into this for the first time a few days ago while booking a stay in NYC (Millenium Hilton). At first I was suprised by the fact that they are giving out double points for marginally higher rate ($269 vs $259) - so I was wondering if there are any disclaimers that are not immediatelly visible (I don't think it's a scam or anything like that but just looking for more information on these) or it's simply a promotion and should be taken at it's face value?
The rate details don't reveal much, other than the name "HHONORS DOUBLE POINTS" (it's actually not available any more).
More importantly, how are these applied - to the base points only or does it affect Diamond bonus too? How about the 50% option?

The double points rates are just that - no catches or anything of that sort. I booked one earlier this year for a 5-night stay at the Hilton in Silver Spring, Maryland (it cost $9 per night more), so they do pop up from time to time at certain locations. The only thing to be aware of, though, is to make sure that the points post. Mine did not automatically post, but an e-mail to HHonors fixed that with little hassle.

The bonus points only apply to the base points, and not the VIP bonus or any other bonuses. And, of course, don't forget that the bonus points are just that - a bonus - and do not count towards VIP qualification by points.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I figured, but glad someone could confirm it. Unfortunatelly, no bonuses are ever cumulative, and I certainly wouldn't expect them to count towards qualifications (although, on the subject, I guess it varies from person to person, but I always complete the nights requirement way before points requirement for status).

And another quick area related question - comparatively, Millenium Hilton vs. Embassy Suites (New York, lower Manhattan) few blocks away - expriences, preferences? (I would probably get more responses by starting a new thread with appropriate name, but don't think it's worth it)

It's not unheard of for HH having a "DOUBLE POINTS" (or "DOUBLE MILES") rates that are exactly the same as the lowest possible rate available to general public. I have booked such rates online on several occasions, and was lucky enough to have bonuses posted automatically.

I have not stayed at the Embassy Suites, but have at the Millenium. The Millenium is far better located in terms of transportation. The hotel is literally surrounded by 6-8 subway lines. Diamond HH members are almost always upgraded to Junior Suites or better there. You usually get a full breakfast also. No concierge lounge though.

Ditto... Hilton Dublin Airport is running promo Double Airline Miles for stays with promo code DW... The rate is exactly the same as regular rate.

Curious about these rates - sometimes only accessible if you click on the specific link under "Hotel Specials". One of the locations I'm thinking of staying at has this rate, but when I go and try to book a room that is within the specific offer period, I get a message saying "Double Points rate not available". Would I be better off booking through the 1-800# and using the plan code? Do they really only allow a certain # of rooms at the rate? I read the T&C pretty closely so I should be eligible..doesn't make sense to have a promotion like this and then not have any rooms available. Thanks for any input!

It is a normal rate 159 or 179 per night depending on day of week.
