This is my first trip report and i will be making some mistakes so...
Also i forgot to bring the menu's with me
Monday 8th AUG IAH-FRA LH 418 seats 82H&K
Dep 5.55pm on time Arrival 07.50am on time
Wanted to escort my mother to Cairo as she is getting old and need a whealchair to travel with and her past experiences alone wewre terrible.
Arrived IAD 4.10pm the traffic police outside the terminal were very nice and friendly they allowed my son to park till i can manage to get a porter and a whealchair. Went to the LH agent station 2 who immediately requested the chair it arrived in 3 minutes got my mother the luggage said goodbye to my son and again same agent at LH checked us in very fast and friendly.
Securitu lined were really looooong but we went through a special area and i am very happy to report that the TSA agents did treat my mother with silk hands and we went troughin 5 minutes.I might add that we did both have to take our shoes off but that was no problem.
Went to the first class lounge of UA opposite gate C4 nice area a lot of drinks and cold food very friendly receptionnists, managed a couple of cigarettes in the smoking lounge "I know still have this bad habit" and then we got our whealchair back escorted to the plane A747-400 at 05.30.pm.
Boarding was fast other passengers gave way to my mother "thank you all"
and the FA at the gate took my mother hand helped her up the stairs to the upper level and guided her to her seat. ^
The very nice and aways smiling FA offerred us drinks and hot towels, my mom took a bloody mary i took some fizzy water.
We did have about 5 minutes delay as one pax was a no-show and his luggage was taken away from the plane
Took off brunway 1L Amnities kit given nothing to write home about menu's given nice choices of course as a member of Ft i chose the caviar as a starter very nice was offerred seconds again keeping with the rules og FT i accepted. Some other appetizers was a seared Tuna.
Caviar was followed with salad and champane balsamic dressing very tasty.
Chose the fish as a main dish it was ok.
At that time could not eat any more even my mother advised that the cheese and desert were the best she ever eaten on a plane.
Let me add here that the bread basket was offerred few times and the bread on LH is a great and u have a lot of choices.
Took 2 glasses of a Geman white wine was okeyish.
On this 747 no avod system the choices of movies is limted and not great and even the individual movies choices did not stand up to other airlines.
Now it is time to bed. The seat becomes a flat bed very nice pillows given and a blanket and of course a PJ.Managed to get few minutes sleep but then my mom who sleeps 18 hours a day at home decided that she does not like sleeping on planes walk me up few times with the funniests excuses so bye bye do do.Stayed up rest of flightkeeping my mother company.
An hour before landing 3 choices of breakfast were offerred healthy/German/and an American,refused all 3 and just took 2 glasses of OJ very nice and fresh.
Arrived at FRA on time met at the door with a very friendly LH agent with the whealchair escorted to the F/c lounge next to the casino in terminal B with a stop at the smoking area.
The F/C lounge is a small but very nice room a nice bar a lot of food chouces breakfast was in offer,but the best thing was the shower nice rain shower felt very fresh afterwards.Only 5 minutes wait. Managed a couple of cig at the casino played video poker and then the Lh agent came to fetch my mother she saw me at the casino and called me over.
Tuesday 9th Aug FRA- CAI LH 582 Seats 1A/D
Dep on time 10.10 am arrival on time 03.05pm
Again the nice LH agent escorted us all the way to the plane.At the door again the FA took my mother hand and guided her to her seat not a long walk on this A330-300 from 1L door.
Drinks and very hot towels immediatly offerred.
Again 5 minutes delay another non show pax :confused: Where all those non show go after they check in?????
A very fast and steep take off my stomach went all the way to last row of Y and back.
Same wines where on offer let the FA convince me to try a Hungarian white.
Not really to my taste but i am not a wine connaisseur either so...
Again Caviar was on offer and this time i accepted again :D TWICE
Salad was great and again the main dish was a fish and this time it was goooood.
Did not try neither the cheese nor the dessert as again i eat a lot of bread,"they offer again a great of choice and i am a bread lover"
Managed a couple of hours of well deserved zzz time as my mother was across the isle due to the 1-2-1 configaratio of this plane. THANK YOU LH
Arrival to cairo and my heart dropped to my knees as i could see that just ahead of us there was Swiss,GulfAir,Quatar Airways,Alitalia,and Austrian.
Now Cairo airport with 2 arrival at the same time is bad enough so i thoght we will be here fore ages.Not so
Even that the exit door was 2L the FA was kind enough to halt other passengers so my mother could get to her whealchair which was waiting at the door.Fast exit took the back elevator to immigration 3 minutes and a short walk to the buggage conveyer.Now this is where Cairo airport is at is worst at least a thousand person in there temperature in the upper 30'sC
Very chaotic.Our whealchair escort was great he went outside got our luggage and we got out in about 10 minutes "HE WAS VERY VERY GOOD"
Got ourselves a limo service and arrived home at 04.10pm that is great by Cairo standart
All in all a great experience.LH was a great choice.Did not meet any matrons.
And a very well deserved Thank You to all LH employees
