The fun of living on the road. I walk into the loby of this Hotel ready to check in, walk to the counter and wait for the woman on the phone to get done. 5 minutes goes by, I notice a Manager type looking person standing oer in the corner. Finaly the woman gets off the phone behind the desk and asks me if I wnt to check in. Lets see I've been standing with my bags and a credit card in hand....no I don't want to check in. She says " well ( Some one's name) is on the phone taking a reservation. You can't check me in? "No".

ITs been 15 minutes so far. I ask man standing around if he is the manager, he says yes. I said as a Diamond this is the worst check in I have ever seen. He goes around the counter I'm thinking cool I'll get checked in. He looks at me and says I can't check you in.

Finaly I get checked in, nice guy who actually can check me in vs. standing around the loby, I guess this is what managers do. Get checked in walk to room. Get to room door lock does not work. Walk back down, get new key.
New key does not work. Notice suites wonder why I did not get an upgrade.

Get new key ask "Are the suutes availble". "Here is your new Key sir"...what about the suites.....Ahhh Yes.....

At this point I am lost I just want to get email done. New key for different room does not work.

30+ minutes after I walk in the hotel and I an still not in my room. Finaly mantiance gets me in and fix's the lock.

Room has a non wall controled AC unit that sounds like a 737 taking off.

Besides this being a rather run down hotel, the whole check in process and lack of gicing a damn by the manager I would never stay here again!

There must be a detail missing from your story. This part makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Taking these details at face value I would have definitely asking the manager "Why not?"

We usually use the DT Novi as a quick get away hotel for our family. We probably stay here 2-3 times a year.
The other option being the ES Livonia, just a few miles (south on 275, exit 7 mile rd. east, north on victor parkway) away.

I have found the service at the DT Novi to range from average to very good.
I do agree that the hotel is showing its age but between the suites they upgrade us to (they always ask if we are only staying for one night, which we do) and the Gold amenity packs (chips, water, sometimes another item) along with the multiple cookies we will go back.
Although our last stay, one of the staff in the breakfast area gave me some flack for wanting to get two take-out containers to bring breakfast back to the room. I thought this odd since I would be eating less taking the food to the room than if we all came down and grazed at the buffet.

Regarding your check-in... was any reason given why multiple front desk personnel could not check you in?
We have been checked in by a manager at least once.

Sorry to hear about your unpleasant stay / check-in.

FYI, there is also a HI, even closer then the ES and they do have the 100% guarantee.

Notice suites wonder why I did not get an upgrade.

Could it be because suite upgrades are not a published benefit for HHonors Diamond?

Stay at the Hilton Suites Rochester Hills instead! Very nice property not too far from Novi, ALL suites, very professional staff. I have not been impressed with recent Doubletree stays, I would go this route instead if I was in the area.

Stayed at Novi Doubletree recently. Have to agree with previous poster this property is showing some age in their rooms. I do like the atrium style setting and thought the restaraunt for breakfast food was okay. Didn't check out the bar/lounge. Had no trouble at check in but there was no one in line ahead of me.

One disappointment was I had called ahead of time (just days prior) and told they had a van to shuttle with x miles of hotel. Asked hours and told until 11:00 pm. Well the night of the stay called front desk around 10:30 and was told the driver took off early. I guess I should've called earlier or told at check in I would need the van ride. Had I known this I think I would've opted for one of Marriotts a little closer to where I was going for the evening.
