Hilton HHonors - Advice please--Frankfurt or Mainz?

I am attending an event in Mainz that begins on the 21st of August. I arrive on the 20th, and, since the regular accomodations won't be ready till the next afternoon, was planning to use my points to stay at one of the Hilton properties in either Frankfurt or Mainz. I fly into FRA, arriving about 10:30 a.m. on August 20. Any advice from the veterans on where best to spend the night of the 20th? I'll be traveling by myself by the way, and speak no German. Thanks for any advice!

I was in Frankfurt last week and chose the Sheraton Arebella Congress as it was outside of the city.

However Im sorry I ddint stay at The Scandic in Offenbach which is right over theRiver from Frankfurt. Its 10,000 HH Pts for the night. I didnt do it as someone else was paying for my Hotel and didnt want to use my Pts. But I wouldnt hesitate the next time to stay at The Scandic.

That having been said I have Never stayed there so I suggest you do a Search to decide.

Sacndic is in Offenbach and while close to a subway station still far away from Mainz, if you do not rent a car.Beware of early morning traffic.

The Hilton Frankfurt is Hilton`s prime property in Germany, but definitely more expensive than the Hilton properties in Mainz.

Both Hilton`s in Mainz are solid, but hardly comparable to the one in Frankfurt.

If you want to spoil yourself in Mainz, go for the Hyatt Regency ^

The Hilton in Frankfurt is very nice. Highly recommended.

Thanks! I'm leaning toward a night at the Hilton in Frankfurt since it has rooms available for an award stay.

Echo the props for the Hilton Frankfurt. Stayed there on an award last year, was given a very nice exec level room (11th and 12th floors, IIRC), decent brekkie and cocktail hour / snacks in the afternoon. There's a nice park right next to the hotel for wandering around, too.

Now I'm going to say the opposite. If you need to be in Mainz, I'd lean towards the Mainz City Hilton for business. The Mainz Hilton is nice, with lovely staff and a bit run down, but there's also a lot of FA nightstops there which means it can be a bit lively.

OK, FRA has an executive lounge, but being a scruffy academic, I've found it not welcoming and also found them unwilling to upgrade and rather too willing to downgrade. I don't like having to fight for the Park View ordinary room booked.

I have been there maybe ten times last year, the lounge was excellent, very nice people working, decent snacks.
I was always upgraded to Exec or at least nice cornerrooms.
Fitness club has a 25m swimming pool.

Unless you have to be in Mainz very early I would stay in FRA

I went 5 times over 2003/4, unless I have to be in FRA very early, I'd rather stay somewhere else.

Opinions differ, obviously.
