GoingAway Jul 27, 05, 7:51 pm your regular gold benefits apply to your stay, so if its a hotel where golds are usually upgraded, you'd be upgraded. G'luck. ilchib Jul 27, 05, 8:09 pm It varies from property to property. I did receive upgrades occasionally when I was gold. I have better luck now as a platinum. julyrose9 Jul 27, 05, 11:55 pm Can you get a room upgrade on an award stay if you are a gold member? Often I got a room on the SPG floor on paid or award stays. Never got anything better as SPG Gold. However, as a HHonors Gold I often receive suite upgrades. gleff Jul 28, 05, 5:15 am Whether you're on a paid or award stay shouldn't matter, as observed above. Just understand that the terms and conditions of the SPG program specify that a Gold should be upgraded to a preferred room, which might be a high floor or better view or even just away from (or close to) the elevators. Bottom-line is that Gold is supposed to ensure that you don't get put in the worst room at a property, but that's about all. If you want a real upgrade, consider using points -- many properties will allow you to spend more points for an upgraded award, giving you a specific view or even a suite (the latter is usually double the points). On a paid stay you can upgrade 5 days in advance of checkin if available. And in either case (or on a cash & points stay) you may be able to upgrade at checkin using an Instant Award... if you aren't able to simply mooch the upgrade with your charm. ;) hilton-gold Jul 28, 05, 6:39 am Same as the others above. I have been upgraded on award stays in Cancun, Ft. Lauderdale, and Providence. The upgrades were not to the club, though in Providence it was offered but I declined, as the lounge was closed for the weekend. At the two beach, I booked a city view award room and got an ocean view, but other room features were the same. As an sidebar, sometimes the "upgrade" is not worth it, as it is often an identical room facing a different way. One needs to want that particular view or else it is just an upgrade to upgrade. |
