Starwood Preferred Guest - Properties in New York particularly high this summer/fall?
I did a search, but didn't find anything on this. I've looked for some accommodations in NYC for summer (mid Sep) and fall (last week of October), and things are coming in at $329+. These don't seem like particularly high times, and I recall having better rates in past years at similar times. Does this seem out of the ordinary?
Cheers.

hotels in NYC (not just starwood) are running at almost full capacity. it's quite extraordinary.
i have a very close friend that is a senior manager at The Mark Hotel in NYC (Mandarin Oriental property). they have been close to 100% almost the entire summer. i tried for a last minute room a week or so ago at any starwood property in NYC. each and every one was completely sold out. i had to bunk with a friend.
Also, those times are peak business meeting/conference/convention times in NYC.

Thanks! I just don't seem to recall it being so bad in the past at this time of year, even with that going on. fly co to see the yanks' comments seem to imply that it's not normal, even given that. I mean the Essex House with a park view would be nice in October, but $459 plus tax?
Cheers.

Actually, I would think those ARE peak times due to conventions and the return of business travelers after the summer. I've been surprised with the rates I'm seeing in August for a couple of trips I have planned. Nothing under $300 for any Starwood property in Manhattan during the week (other than non-refundable Internet rates). Some rates are quite high. Usually August is fairly quiet in NY and in past years I've stayed at the Russell for under $200 during the week.
Good to see the economy generating that kind of demand for rooms! ^
Things are definitely looking up for hotel owners in NYC. See this existing thread on the same topic:

Also, a recent study by Priceline confirms the increases in NYC:

D'ohA Did my search on "New York Prices", and didn't find this. Should have used "Rates" instead. Thanks for the link.
Cheers.
