South - Bar and Restaurant Recommendations in Birmingham?

Hi all!

I'm flying down to Birmingham AL to visit a friend that recently moved there. Both of us are not familiar with the area at all. I've been doing some research looking for unique bars and restaurants in the area, but I think nothing compares to the good ol' word of mouth! :) Any recommendations for this Yankee?

There are several unique areas that might hold up to what you are looking for. First, the Lakeview District (easily found and everyone will be able to tell you how to get there) has a lot to offer from a unique bar scene.

There are several restaurants as well. It just depends on what you are looking for. Budget, cuisine and location come into play as usual.
