Trip Reports - LHR-VIE-LHR on BA Club Europe and Hotel Intercontinental
I've now updated my website for my recent weekend in the beautiful city of Vienna. Its on the Short Reports (http://www.philstraveldiary.co.uk/Short_Reports/reports.htm) section of my website and consists of three parts, the flight (http://www.philstraveldiary.co.uk/Short_Reports/vienna_flights.htm), hotel (http://www.philstraveldiary.co.uk/Short_Reports/vienna_hotel.htm) and photos (http://www.philstraveldiary.co.uk/Short_Reports/vienna.htm) from my stay in Vienna.
I have also updated my photos from my stay in Washington, DC (http://www.philstraveldiary.co.uk/Short_Reports/washington.htm), back in April.

I enjoyed reading your trip report on SQ to SYD having done LHR-MEL/SYD-LHR myself. I agree, SQ would certainly be one of my top choices to fly to Oz in Y. Nice fluffy hot towels before take-off in Y and printed menus - you don't get these little extras when flying Y on other carriers do you? Food's not bad either. It's also good that the Flight Attendants ask you to put your seat upright as a courtesy during the meal service. Quality stuff.

Nice mini-report on BA Club. You like your champers don't you?! Hmm, is that picture supposed to be the lounge in VIE? Looks more like a canteen! :D

Great trip report!
Although I am from Vienna, I am always interested in how Vienna is seen by visitors. The hotel Intercontinental at Stadtpark is perfectly located, but has one of the ugliest facades in Vienna. Viennese don't like it, it's a architectural shame! If you walk westwards to Schwarzenbergplatz, you find one of Vienna's most interesting districts. A lot of well-preserved and maintained buildings, which were not fully destroyed while WWII. When being in this district, you can still feel the splendour of a city, which had been very powerful and influential in former times.
OS-A330 I entirely agree about the facade of the Intercontinental - not very aesthetic at all! But the rest of Vienna is beautiful, so beautiful ^ .
My only little criticism is that many of the most magnificent buildings were covered in scaffolding and/or building work - very frustrating for a visitor!!!

A good example underlining your criticism is the St. Stephan'c cathedral. This old building is mostly made of sandstone, which is very sensitive to air pollution. Therefore it's painstaking to keep it in shape and afford money for the renovation.

Yes, this is true and I understand the need for renovation to keep these building both structurally sound and beautiful, but from the tourist perspective at the current time (tourist season), the following buildings are currently obscured by scaffolding/building work:
Stephansdom
Staatsoper
Hofburg
Parlament
Kunsthistorischesmuseum
Schloss Schönbrunn

Wow! I am Viennese, and I didn't even know it. Vienna is covered by scaffoldings! :D
I especially mentioned the cathedral, because it's particularly complex due to the used materials.
