Hey folks,
I know the "what are my chances of upgrading...." threads are rather vague but I'm trying to make a decision and need some feedback.
My wife and I are thinking about going to Glasgow or maybe Dublin this September. I had been planning on using miles for 2 premium seats (assuming its envoy, not first?). However, I cannot seem to find availablilty to anywhere remotely close to the UK for anytime before December.
I did, however find a $380 fare to Glasgow that suites our dates. We are looking at a monday depart and a return on a wed. Do I have a chance of either or both of us being upgraded as a DM gold? I think I'd rather not risk it, so another option is upgrading using miles. Is that 10,000 each way? The site is unclear.
Anyone have any insight or suggestions... much appericated!

The $380 fare is probably a lower-class fare (W probably) which will not be able to be upgraded. M/H/Q fares can be upgraded for 30k each way; Y/B fares are 10k each way.

Thanks for the reply... I think that just about answers it.
But unfortunately I still cannot seem to find award availability to the UK anytime soon.

Glad to do it... and thanks for the offer!
At this point we are wide open. Looking for 10 days (wife's vacation limit not mine) to Ireland or Scotland... open to flying in and out of different places if that helps. Specifically looking for envoy or first... what ever the premium award is. Dates are not specific... anytime b/t 2 weeks from now and October.
Thanks again and I'd love to hear any pointers on searching more effectively!

Well here's one clarification point. You've mentioned two things, Premium and Envoy, which are two sepate things.
There are coach awards and there are Envoy awards. Fairly straight-forward - you sit either in the front or the back of the bus.
Then in each of the coach and Envoy types of awards there are two types - standard and premium. Standard awards are highly capacity-controlled; premium awards are very wide open.
So your options for booking a trip across the pond are as follows:
Standard coach - 50k miles
Premium coach - 100k miles
Standard Envoy - 80k miles
Premium Envoy - 160k miles
It seems that you're trying to snag a standard Envoy award by what you're saying, and from what I can see all the availability for most Envoy awards for September across the pond are booked. I'll keep looking.

Right you are, looking for std envoy. I thought I might have been confusing terms when I posted...
Like I said, we are flexible... just trying to get a summer (or fall) vacation...
