US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Cancelled Flight

I get a phone call last night from US Airways, saying that my flight for this morning is already cancelled, I thought it was a weather issue. However when I call up to reschedule, it turns out that they do not have a flight crew.
When I tried to switch to a HPN - PHL - PIT itinerary, I was told the PHL flight was also cancelled due to weather.
How can they cancel flights 1 day in advance due to weather. Has anyone else experienced the 'No flight crew' cancellation?
It took me 6 hours to get in today, what is normally and 1.5 hours.

The weather across the Eastern seaboard was absolutely horrific this weekend. I don't doubt that crews and plans are scattered in all the wrong places and that it will take US a little while to get straightened out.
Nonetheless, they should've had at least one early morning flight out of HPN.

Why not just drive to LGA and take a non-stop to PIT?

Why not just drive to LGA and take a non-stop to PIT?
I thought about that - but didn't want to get up at 3:30am. 4:30 is bad enough.

Try searching for the term "predictive cancellation". It happens on DL to a certain extent. Especially when there are thunderstorms forecast for the ATL area.
It should also noted that NW has "mechanical" issues if flts are undersold.
Go figure. :td:  :D

Last night's PHL-PIT-PHL operations were horrid. After a 2+ hour delay getting PHL-PIT, my return flight cxl'd out after taking a 3+ hour delay. Thankfully they had a 767 running between PHL and PIT and I made it home after 1230A last night. (It was the scheduled 8P flight)

HPN is always expendable. Quite simply, they know they (or you, on your own) can get you to LGA in under 30 minutes. Meantime, I have never figured out the pricing rationale for White Plains. If you want to use it to Philly or DCA, it costs as much as flying to Europe. Then, having convinced people to go to LGA for a lower fare, they load those planes with crap traffic, mostly connecting to Florida, at busfare pricing.

mcohen73...I was also scheduled to be on US2449 to PIT on Monday morning. I recieved my phone call Sunday night and delt with a very rude and unhelpful Indian agent (miss the Greentree Res center already). She told me the earliest I could get into PIT was 3:30pm (even with a conx)...me, not having a computer available, assured her that was not the case and fought with her to keep looking. Eventually, she found the HPN-DCA-PIT itinerary that I presume most of us got on.
Anyway, when I got to the airport, I noticed that HPN had flights to BOS too (which I was unaware of). I asked if there was a quicker way to get into PIT through BOS and the agent (the woman on the right) said there was. Long story short....the agent changed my itinerary to terminate in DCA after the BOS conx (luckly i noticed this before leaving HPN). I changed my ticket...but, sadly, along with missing a day of work, my luggage took an extra 24 hours to get home.
I did find it sad how our non-stop PIT-HPN itinerary was attacked by the PHL-factor. PHL is where our plane didn't come from the night before.

The weather in the northeast has wreaked havok on the entire system the last couple of weeks. I was on a trip on Tuesday and we flew so much that we were unable to fly our last 2 legs due to rest and flight time limitations. This was also due to the fact that ATC kept delaying our departure further and further until we ran illegal. Since we couldn't get to our overnight and it was late at night, they had no crew to fly the morning flight and ended up cancelling it and getting us into position to fly the second segment the next day. This is just one example of how they know that there will be no morning flight ahead of time due to "lack of crew" and can phone passengers ahead of time. A huge number of crews have been flying a lot of additional time this month, and I wouldn't be surprised if people starting running out of time before the end of the month. There just aren't enough crews to cover everything!! :(

I still haven't learned. I did BWI-BOS via LGA on the outbound, and via PHL on the return. It wasn't US's fault.......weather, ATC, and ground delays. Just about every BOS-PHL flight was canceling except for ours. It was two hours late, but it was another 70 minutes from touchdown to gate.
Here's what killed me: Our PHL-BWI flight was also late. It was sitting at the gate, but the agent had boarded the fight, and the door was closed. (8:10P flight, now at 9:05P. She wouldn't let us on and told us to wait for the 10:55P. Now, having been around awhile, I should probably know better. But I still can't understand why, when the plane is still sitting at the gate, and is not going anywhere, why they couldn't let us on, when it was a ground delay, ironically, that kept us from getting there on time.
Nonetheless: We rented a car and drove home in 90 minutes, and arrived home 10 minutes after our original connection got to BWI. The ground delay in PHL was interminable. So, we did better by driving the 90 miles. And the 10:55 flight that we were protected on, got into BWI at 2:15AM.
The moral of the story for the topic: From the number of cancellations experienced that night, I can imagine the number of flights that would have been disrupted at airports that weren't affected by the storm. I know BWI had several cancellations the next morning itself.

You should have called the CP desk at that point if the aircraft was still sitting at the gate. You will be shocked what they will do for you. Everytime I get caught in trouble I call the CP desk. Everytime so far they have fixed the problem.

Shinbal,
Your posts bothered me so much I called the CP desk just now. They told me that you should have called them. They would have either called the GA to find out what was going on or they would have called the station manager and more than likely you would have gotten on the flight or at least would have gotten a very good explination of why you could not have gotten on. The CP agent told me IF YOU EVER again have problems at the airport...for you to call them. They will help you.
