Just checked the award calendar all the way out to June of 2006. Is anyone getting 80k Envoy award tickets or has inventory decided against those for the next 11 months?

Is anyone getting 80k Envoy award tickets or has inventory decided against those for the next 11 months? Not to be rude, but are you kidding me? FCO is the most popular/profitable and therefore difficult destination in europe to get with 80,000. I would keep working on it weekly but your chances are poor. NeoOfTheCRS Jul 17, 05, 10:34 pm Not one seat on a rainy February day? That is absurd. Not to be rude, but are you kidding me? US must keep allocation different from partner carriers. Last week I booked 2 award tickets on UA operated by US in Envoy class next April... the dates didn't work out so I shifted them a couple of days--no problem. So it looks like there's inventory out there--just not to US passengers. Go figure. kudzu Jul 18, 05, 12:22 am 80k Envoy availability is, of course, rather difficult to popular FCO. Foolin' around on the US website, though, I've been able to dummy book CLT-PHL-FCO on an 80k Envoy award, e.g. leaving Dec 13 and returning Dec 19 (arbitrarily-picked dates). I haven't checked for 2006 availability. Pre-Christmas shopping in Rome would be nice! PHLbuddy Jul 18, 05, 6:05 am How many tickets are you trying to book? This is always a problem. Any more than 2 on the same flights and you're probably running into trouble. ytjk Jul 18, 05, 8:43 am They never released a single 50,000 mile seat PHL-MUC (RT) all summer. There are finally (in the last week or 2) 50,000 mile seats available now PHL-MUC(one way) of course if you want to make a round trip and actually RETURN you have to pay the 100,000 I started this attempt exactly 330 days prior, they never released a seat. I'm a CP, I do my 100,000 miles per year, I get 100,000 miles per year CP bonus, all I want to do is use my 200,000 miles to get my family of 4 to Germany once a summer. It was easy for like 5 straight years. I obviously can't go business class, they never release 4 80,000 mile seats. I can't get 2 business class seats, because putting the wife up front and the kids by themselves in the back doesn't work. I can't afford 4 160,000 seats. I can't even afford the 4 100,000 seats. It shouldn't be this hard. My wife flew PHL-MUC yesterday with over 90 empty seats.....Of course I had to pay 100,000 for the privilege. I tried to upgrade her with my DMUTA4 no dice. Was better off in the back anyway, she could lay down across the 3 empty middle row seats. It was never this way in years past. I believe US has decided that seats that cost $1000 will not be sold for 50,000 miles, regardless of load. I had to purchase the rest of my seats instead this summer, and since I had to pay real money, I go Lufthansa that has better cheaper kid friendly service. Even as a PHL flyer, the frustration from this year makes me want to switch -- there's no reason I can't get a 50,000 seat 330 out PHL-MUC. I have 200,000 Delta miles that just sit there, I'm going to try to book next summer's trip on Delta at the end of July (connections suck, but paying money sucks even more). If they show availablility PHL-MUC on a 50,000 mile seat at the 330 day window, I'm putting all of my flights onto Delta from here on out. Cheers! kudzu Jul 18, 05, 9:39 am ....I started this attempt exactly 330 days prior, they never released a seat. ...It shouldn't be this hard. I'm sorry to hear this :( Did you try a last-resort call to the CP Desk, explaining the situation, pointing out the wide open coach seats, and asking if they could help out? Even if inventory management still is stubborn, they could have tried to find award seats on LH or other *A partners. A month before Thanksgiving break last year, I had to call anyway for *A award availability CLT - GIG in Business. I knew the chances were slim, but after a long hold, 3 seats were found - agent said something like "We try very hard for our CP members, and you did sound like you need a break on the beach in Rio......thanks for flying so much with us" ripvan Jul 18, 05, 9:48 am try *A, just got back 8 weeks ago from Italy. I did book them about 9 months in advance, 4 Biz class on LH. At the time there was availability on US to FCO, but decided to take LH and took a long layover in MUC to drive out to Dachau. Also was able to avoid PHL and FCO airports, in at NAP, out thru VRN. My son even decided late to 'un-invite' his best friend on the trip and bring his girlfriend instead. She was not able to get Biz on the outbound to MUC, but did on the return (plus the Italy flights) Fiumicino Jul 18, 05, 9:49 am FCO-PHL is not very full normally, even in Envoy. I have received a complimentary upgrade on all my FCO-PHL this year ^ (none on PHL-FCO :td:, I guess that's because check-in is by AeroportidiRoma in FCO :D ). I'm surprised they are not releasing award seats. I did two reservations last week, one for september and one for december and prices are very good. Any available seat should be open for reward tickets for the top tier status members (a la AC). I wonder if all of these mileage runners have cheapened the value airlines place on their status members? ytjk Jul 18, 05, 12:24 pm I'm sorry to hear this :( Did you try a last-resort call to the CP Desk, explaining the situation, pointing out the wide open coach seats, and asking if they could help out? I never had to beg before... I'm not sophisticated enough to pull down the loads on each specific flight, nor am I inclined to. I called once a month looking for 50,000 mile inventory on any Star alliance carrier, starting at the 330 day window, from NYC,PHL anywhere on the east coast to MUC or FRA (MUC preferred). I got nothing. Once a connection through Denver for a single seat (PHL, DEN, LHR, MUC.... FRA, ORD, PHL was the routing I think) I've been 4 seats, PHL-MUC-PHL every year before this, cost me 50,000 each. To say that nothing has changed, it's tough and you have to play the game doesn't cut it. I play the game, I book 11 months in advance. Summer availability to Europe is the only reason I need a FF program. Starting next month, I'm a free agent-- whoever shows summer 2006 (departing +- 10 days from 1 Jul and staying for about 6 weeks) availability at the 330 day window, I will fly. mileshound Jul 18, 05, 5:13 pm Not to add fuel to your fire, but on the flights to FCO I'm looking at in Jan, only 6 Envoy seats are taken and they are still offering mileage upgrades - but of course no award seats. NeoOfTheCRS Jul 18, 05, 5:22 pm Mileage upgrades come out of a different fare class, but they should offer at least two envoy award seats for each flight--they certainly aren't selling out the entire cabin. I've read a couple of times about hte 330 day window..let me just add that I think the window opens up at 11:59 pm on day 329---or so a phone agent told me. I've been known to set my alarm clock and make sure I'm on the phone then..good luck! TP Jul 19, 05, 10:29 am 80k Envoy availability is, of course, rather difficult to popular FCO. No Envoy 80K available on US, but plenty of availability on LH first. I requested a 100K award. After 10 minutes on hold, they decided to confirm me in Envoy on a standard 80K award :) At the airport I found out that the flight was oversold, but felt too ashamed to volunteer. Luckily for US, there were a few no-shows in Envoy, and the flight left with at least 3 empty seats. phillygold Jul 19, 05, 4:01 pm I've read a couple of times about hte 330 day window..let me just add that I think the window opens up at 11:59 pm on day 329---or so a phone agent told me. I went into the website looking for 2 PHL-FCO Envoy 80k seats last January for this summer. I lucked into 2 seats in late August. They were the only 2 seats available in June, July or August...and there was only 1 return date available. (6 days later).... mileshound Jul 30, 05, 9:56 pm It looks like they released some seats. I found availabiliy for 2 Envoy award seats in Jan and March. I didn't check Feb. Grab them while you can. See you in row 1. |
