Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - One way SIN-BKK: SQ Y vs GA/IC/SK in J

I need to book a one-way ticket from SIN-BKK for next month. I was looking at prices on Zuji and it seems that my options are roughly as follows:

IC J: S$ 180
GA J: S$ 280
SQ Y: S$ 300
SK J: S$ 420
SQ/IATA J fare: S$ 750

So was wondering which would be the best option...
I've never flown Garuda before so have no idea what to expect...?
And with GA and IC I'm worried about the punctuality factor too. Does anyone know how good/bad they are in this regard from SIN... Especially since they only have one flight a day to BKK.

So what would the recommendations be... SQ in Y? Or one of the others in J? Miles are not too big a consideration here, although I obivously wouldn't turn them down! :D

Also it seems that Zuji can only issue paper tix for GA/IC/SK. I'm leaving for Oz in two weeks, so there would have about 9 working days if I book tomorrow for the tix to reach me in London. Are Zuji reliable in this regard... And what would be the backup if the tix don't reach me in time? Can I get them issued by the respective airline at the airport?

Oh, and with SQ Y which lounge will a (non-SQ) *G be using in SIN? I'm assuming it isn't the Silver Kris...

thanks in advance.

cheers
AJ

If you have a schedule to keep I'd go for SQ. As *G (even SQ) not travelling in raffles or first would have access to Premier Lounge in SIN, not the SKL.

Will you be in SIN 6 Aug (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=427784) before heading to Bangkok? If so would be nice if you could join us for dinner & drinks.

As for paper tickets, could you arrange with Zuji to collect them in Australia?

Cheers KF. :)

No schedule to keep in particular. But I guess I'll try out SQ Y for once! Especially since it'll be an etix and thus no paper tix hassle. And they'll be a greater choice of flights.

I'll be in SIN from 17th-22nd Aug. Too late for the Do on the 6th unfortunately. But if you're around during those days...

BTW, I have Priority Pass as well. Is this "Premium lounge" the same as the Priority Pass lounge? If not, which is better?

I'll be flying back to FRA on LH F, I'm assuming this still allows access to the F section of the SKL?

And finally, how stringent is SQ with carry-ons in Y? I'll have a 18" roll-aboard and a decent sized shoulder bag.

Yes F on LH will give access to F SKL.

The new premier lounge at SIN is quite nice (although not as good as SKL). There's a thread about it here somewhere.

In my experience SQ isnt too strict on carry-ons. If flight is looking full then it may pay to board early rather than hanging around in the lounge until last minute.

The Plaza Premium Lounge (Priority Pass) isn't the same as the SATS Premier Lounge (*G lounge). You'll need to use different escalators for the two. The former doesn't have any alcoholic drinks, for example, but it does have a modest spread of food. The Priority Pass Lounge has the advantage of not being mobbed during certain times of the day (as the Premier Lounge was for the 09.00 flight I took).

I'd use the Plaza Premium Lounge as the backup lounge ... after grabbing something to drink at the SATS Premier Lounge, of course. ;)

The link to the pictures and discussion of the SATS Premium Lounge is in the sticky SQ FAQ, in the answer to the question "What is the deal with *G access to the SKL at SIN?".

You can fly one way Thai Premium Economy Class for less than the price of SQ Y through Misa Travel (www.airfares.com.sg/airfares/tg/7_at_tg_thailand.htm). It's booked in U class. The odd thing, and I mean this is really odd, is that U class earns X3.0 miles in bmi's diamond club:

https://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/frequentflyers/howtoearnmiles.aspx

Is that for real or is it a mistake?

Thanks UK flyer. It seems that "Premium Economy" is offered on the 0745 and 1715 flights on the A300-600. And since TG doesn't sell J seats on these flights, I guess it's safe to assume that U pax get the old J seats but Y service.

Hmmm, so now a choice between SQ Y vs TG U.

With the TG option the good news is that tickets are flexible. The bad news is:

* Passenger holding ' U ' class tickets and wish to travel on those flights which do not have Premium Economy , will be booked and seated in Economy class without any refundable value.

It might also be worth investigating the return airfare prices - for instance SQ has return flights from SG138+tax if you can convince someone else to go with you as well (they're companion tickets) - even with throwing away the return portion you'll be well ahead! ^

The SQ one-way fare is flexible as well.

Thanks Savage. :D

I'm coming back on LX from BKK-SIN in F to get the 10k bonus. Hence I can't fly the outbound on LX!!
