I did a search and found that when getting a QF award using US miles, the visa is easily obtained by calling QF. Is the same true for awards on NZ (calling NZ, not QF though)?

When you've got your passport in front of you, just call NZ & say that you are booked on their flight #XXX on date XXX & that you need a visa. I did Sydney over Memorial Day weekend using US miles on United. United did the visa for me with no problem. If they won't do the visa for you, it's only like $20 AUD (I know...free is better than $20) & can be easily requested on a website.

PS If you are going to Sydney, do the Harbor Bridge Climb. Sure, it is expensive at $150 AUD, but it is worth it.

I am flying QF on a US award. When I called QF to do my visa (as I have for every trip that I have taken in the past), they advised me that they now charge for this service. I believe that it was AU$30. They have a link on their website to the Australian government's Visa link. I believe that the fee is AU$20 there. No more free visas it sounds like :-(

I am a licensed corporate meeting planner and I have native WorldSpan and SABRE on my laptop. I am more than happy to enter your ETA's for Australia for no charge. It takes just 30 seconds and I have done it many many times.. even for myself..

DG - Is there any way for regular people to book the visa w/o charge? I would have you do mine, but I have already paid the AU$20 fee for this year. Just good knowledge for future reference. Thanks

For the Bridge Climb, make sure to look at the weather forecast.

American used to give them for free on the codeshare with Qantas.
