For the first time in 10 years I had US in my travel plans. To be honest, I had the opportunity in the past; but, always avoided it and stayed on UA metal. So far, I should have followed my previous advice.

I had five itineraries with a US segment included. ORD-LGA-BTV (delayed and overnight LGA); LGA-CLT-SAN (delayed and overnight CLT); SAN-PHL (delayed); PIT-PHX (cancelled) and LAS-PHL (cancelled). Although one occasion was weather related, on only one itinerary was I even able to arrive on the same DAY as ticketed.

The end result was only a $100 voucher by means of a call to Customer Relations. I could not even get a $100 change fee refunded when the flight I changed to was cancelled. I have six upcomming trips with a US segment and plan on approaching UA to keep me on their metal.

I give a huge thumbs up to the US airport personnel that I encountered. They gave quite an effort; but, it was very obvious that they have very few resources available.

As for Consumer Affairs, a huge thumbs down as the $100 voucher did not even make a dent in the hotel and rental car expenses alone that I encountered out of pocket.

I never shut the door on a carrier; but, it will be a while before I venture to US. Maybe not quite 10 more years; but, a while indeed.

Thanks. I was actually considering asking for comp status. After reading this forum typified by your experience, I would have to be totally out of my mind to leave AA. Appreciate the candor...
