Travel Technology - my Bose Quiet Comfort Headphones broke

I think there is a design defect in the QCII headphones. The mechanism that allows you to adjust the headphones to suit your head size / ear position is really flimsy. Six months ago the left side on mine broke and I've patched them up with electrical tape. Yesterday the right hand side did the same thing. Believe me, at $300 a set, I baby these things. But if you look at the mechanical design of the slider mechanism on each arm of the headphones, you can see how easy it is to crack the plastic when the arms are extended and you the pull the earpieces apart so that you can put them on.

Not what I was expecting for my $300. I'll be interested to see what Bose says - I can't believe I'm the only one to experience this.

Welcome to FT! A helpful thing to do is to try using Search this Forum to find other threads on your topic. There are quite a few topics on Bose headsets.

Here is a long thread on your issue: http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=314288

I was pretty bummed out last night when I got to the hotel with both sides of my QCII's now broken. Found this site on a Google search, spend a happy two hours surfing the forums but didn't see the one you referenced about other's having this problem. I feel somewhat better now that I know I have company.

Meanwhile, I'd recommend electrical tape for a repair rather than some of the other options posted. Usually easy to find a roll for a $1 or so at any convenience store.

Its kind of funny that the "sponsored link" that pops up in this thread is for QCII headphone though :p

You might want to contact Bose customer service - 800-444-bose. I understand that they have been able to help people with this problem.

Good Luck

I've got a pair of QC IIs, and mostly have been pretty happy with them. But they are v. bulky. I've been meaning to buy some Shure's or similar smaller earphones, but haven't had time to investigate brands, etc.

The Bose Customer Support were actually really great for me, because when my original (3+ year old) QCs were not working and it was very clear that "wear and tear" had something to do with their malfunction, they replaced my original QCs with QC IIs, for just $50.00
