I'll be staying at the JW Marriott. How do the taxi's operate in HKT? Is it similar to BKK - avoid tuk-tuks and touts at airport, go straight to a taxi-stand?
What is the typical one-way fare from HKT to the JW Marriott?
Many thanks !

JW Marriott is about 15-20 min. north of the airport. The most common way is taking airport taxi with the reasonable price and service. It's much cheaper than taking the hotel limo. I cannot remmember the price but can be checked it out. :D

If you walk out the terminal and pass the parking lot you will find metered taxis which are cheaper than the ones directly at the terminal

I would just take the airport taxi. It might be slightly more expensive, but it won't break the bank and it will be dependable. Enjoy Phuket!

All of the taxi's at the airport are fine. There is usually a 50% difference in price for the ones you book at the airport, and the cheaper (but fine) ones just outside it. Compared to most of the world, they're all inexpensive.
I do find that the airport ones will often stop off and try to get me to switch hotels, stop at a tourist office, and other *very* annoying upsells.

If you walk outside of the secure area, they have kiosks for bus service that will take you to any address. You may need to have it written in Thai, but they are very reliable, and inexpensive. The bus service in the secure area is much more expensive, and no better.
