hi,
I will be studying in Tokyo during this fall and would like to know the cheapest ways to get to Fukuoka (possibly en route to Seoul), Myanmar and Dubai, if possible. I have a couple of four day breaks in October and November, and in December, I have roughly a week to travel somewhere after my study abroad programme is finished.
Would it be cheaper to fly out of Nagoya to get to any of these destinations or Seoul?
Any advice is appreciated...

My Japanese friends normally used overnight buses or a special "student fare" for MANY interconnecting local trains to travel overland in Japan. The bus option gives you the chance to sleep, the cheap trains prolong your traveling time from Tokyo to Fukuoka to something like 24h+ if I'm not mistaken. From Fukuoka take a ferry to Busan and buy a cheap KTX ticket Busan - Seoul over the internet for extra discount.
There is a LCC flying from Seoul to Macau, but it's normally fully booked months ahead. From Macau, you can enjoy a wide choice of LCC destinations all over Asia.
I believe Emirates and Qatar Airways are only flying from/to KIX in Japan(?)

with only 4 days in break. i suggest you go to cities within 3 hour from tokyo. e.g. seoul, sapporo, okinawa, (guam/saipan? if you want warmer places), and chinese cities like hangzhou, beijing, taipei, honkong.
beyond BKK it would take you a full day to get there.
going to dubai probably takes as much time as to LAX. get an Asia map and note the distances when you plan your trip.

I appreciate the concern, but as mentioned earlier, I will have a week at the end of my programme (roughly December 6 - 13) to plan a longer trip, hopefully to Myanmar or Dubai or elsewhere.
In addition, I despise beaches and enjoy my time the most in big crowded cities. (Un)fortunately, I have been to a few major Asian urban areas before, ie Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Singapore, and Jakarta, not to mention a few other scattered places in China, Indonesia (Bali) and Malaysia, Angkor, and Brunei. This is not to say that I do not enjoy the historical aspects of these countries too, but I always like to have a big city to fall back on, if possible (whereas Yangon has more than one million residents, and Vientiane less, I would still definitely enjoy gazing in awe at Bagan and Luang Prabang.) Further, Dubai seems to be the least accessible (in terms of cost) from Tokyo, but for the week long trip, I am also curious in Dhaka (for some reason), Colombo and if possible, Sydney or even a week-long tour of northern India. I realise that this is a bit of information to digest, but I wanted to see what the brains behind the members of flyertalk had to say. Thank you again.
