Title says it all- wondering if anyone has this DVD player, or any other Polaroid for that matter. It's available at Costco (Mississauga, Canada) for $199.99.

Thanks in advance!!

I had one last year, before we upgraded to a Panasonic. What can I help you with?

Quality?

Operation?

Price?

:)

Everything, pretty much! Did you like it in general? How long does the battery last? How is the quality? If I want to spend around $200, would you suggest this one? Any advice is appreciated!

For what it's woth, the girl sitting next to me on the flight from DC to LA yesterday had one, and the screen was brilliant, even from my angle.

She was watching Sex and the City. ;)

OK; the screen pretty much sucks, has a fairly narrow viewing angle and the backlight isn't even. When watching from the front it isn't too bad. Resolution is quite low so details are not always clear.

The build quality is not too shabby, it doens't feel like a $500 Panasonic, but will certainly withstand daily wear and tear quite well. The screen rotation mechanism is probably the weakest point, together with the drive lid.

In the package we got it came with a load of accessories, a good deal.

Battery life is awesome, but it comes with a price as the batterypack is huge and adds a lot of weight.

All in all; it was a good player, it served us well for a year or so and I wouldn't hesitate advising you to buy one, you get what you pay for, but bottom line is that it is a decent, solid player with a great price.

I had one...it broke...got another...it broke, etc.

Lasted me for about 20-30 uses and then was garbage. BTW - Polaroid name has been purchased and used - it's not really Polaroid....it's Petter's Consumer Brands - who are not that friendly.

The good thing about Costco though - you can keep taking it back when it breaks every 3 months and they will give you a new one.

Sorry, I forgot about my own thread! But, thanks for the replies everyone.

When you say that the battery last a long time, how long is that? I read online approx. 3 hours? That's only one movie, pretty much and then it's dead for the rest of the flight. Has anyone purchased an extra battery? Can you? Is it expensive?

The few times I used it for a long period of time I got about 3 hours and 30 minutes out of it. Which is enough for 2 full movies in my experience.

You will not find any player in this price category that can top that.

The Panasonic I purchased has 10 hours battery life, but costs $599.

Found this thread while searching for info on portable DVD player, for someone else...

I had gotten this Polaroid DVD player as a gift and ended up taking it back.
I was able to watch one movie on it and then went to watch another a day later and something had happened, as the screen was black and white and nothing I could do would change it (back to color). I assumed something got knocked lose, although I had treated it as I would any high end electronic piece of equipment, which is carefully. I did not get another one.

The picture quality on the first movie I watched was just Ok.
This one had cost $180.

If I was going to spend the $ to get (another) portable DVD player I would spend a another hundred or two and get a better one.
