MilesBuzz! - Can I transfer USAir miles to AA account ?

I saw on the USAir site that their relationship with American will terminate on August 23. If I'm reading it right, miles may be combined for travel award certificates. Can I transfet my remaining 4k miles to my AA acct or are they just left
in space? The only time I flew USA was for a family emergency, so I probably won't have
occasion to accrue. Any ideas? :confused"

No, you cannot transfer US miles to an AA account.

You may just want to order an award (say the 25,000 mileage domestic coach award) that you think that you can use in the next two years, and move all the USAirways miles over at that time.

But you can combine AA and US miles for an award ticket on AA or US metal. That is what the 8/23 deadline is for.

I have done this and it worked great!

But here is my next question:

I want to combine them again...

This is not for the purpose of traveling, just for the purpose of emptying out my LOW balanced US accounts and merging them >into AA.

So can I, say in 6 months from now, redeposit them?

Can I put them all in one account? Say AA?

Miles are supposed to go back to their respective "sources", i.e. AA miles go back to AA account, and US miles go back to US account.

I also have some 'spare' US miles to get rid of. If we can't transfer them to AA, can we transfer them to Hilton Hhonors? I know that with some airlines, you can transfer miles to Hhonors points, but I wasn't sure if US was one of them.

US is not one of them.

If you combine miles from your AA and US accounts (prior to the Aug. 23 deadline) for an award ticket (or certificate) and then cancel, the miles will now redeposit back to their original accounts.

Regarding the Aug. 23 deadline: That's the last date you can call to request an award ticket by combining miles from the two accounts. Or you can request an award certificate. Either way, you have one year to complete the travel.

All travel on combined AA and US mileage awards must be completed by end of June 2002. See AA's website for more details.

Hence you don't have two years to travel. You have less than 1. In addition, if you do cancel the ticket, the miles will supposedly flow back to their original sources.

So you can't just 'combine' miles. You have to ticket and use an award to get lifetime mileage credit on AA.
