Using UA Around the World tickets for a week long trip to Vietnam in November. Any suggestions on where to visit, what to see, where to stay? Thanks!

Sheraton Towers in HCMC is most popular businessman hotel, lots of others for less. Depends what you're price range and requirements are.

Gotta do the tunnels....

Forgot to mention, countryside is beautiful but many of the provinces hit by avian flu and if you thought SARS was scary, this is something to be careful about.

There is also a decent Renaissance Hotel in HCMC with excellent rates for club floor rooms. Great location next to Saigon River. There is a brand new Hyatt that looked about ready to open when I passed it a few weeks ago.

Saigon is a great place in itself, check out the war museum (very biased and some gruesome sights !) and Reunification Palace and as mentioned above you should definitely do the Cu Chi Tunnels.

Don't limit yourself to just HCMC if you have a week. The Mekong Delta is a must-see or if you prefer city life then check out the capital Hanoi for a few days - 2 hours flight time from HCMC on Vietnam Airlines or Pacific Airlines.

What's the easiest/simplest way to get to/do the tunnels? Hire a car? Take an organized tour? I'll be by myself and only have two full days in SGN (staying at Sheraton). I'll be there end of Sept, during rainy season. Tunnels still doable then? Thanks.

Organised tour is probably the best way. Most of them pick up at the Hotel around 8am and you're usually back by 1pm.

I would forget about driving in Saigon unless you live there !

Thanks. No, I wasn't going to rent a car; rather, I should have said "hire a driver/taxi." I'd guess the hotel could arrange a driver if I wanted to head out on my own.
