As I was looking at Winter flight schedules I noted that America West is increasing the PHX - YEG flight to 2x daily. I have heard HP is doing amazing in the YEG market. Look forward to seeing how the Market reacts.

Apparently not that amazing as they have axed the YEG-LAX non-stops while the n/s remains from YVR-LAX. Hopefully this will open up the route for Westjet.

I am still pulling up the LAX flight...I wouldn't be surprised if this is true though. I think UAL will probably start a SFO flight this fall.

Dream on. It will actually be AS.

I certainly hope that YEG-LAX isn't axed as I take it frequently. I wish the Airport Authority would get its act together and focus on keeping good routes as opposed to paying any attention to AC at all. HP has been good for YEG and they seem to forget that....

Still see them flying to LAX this FALL/WINTER are people just assuming that because HP cut Trancons they cut Edmonton?

Sorry, I was looking at the scheds on americawest.com yesterday and the flights were not there. They are there now so I guess they are still on.

Sifting through the America West site for a week next January (I must have too much time on my hands!), I come up with the following obsevations:

1. It seems there will, indeed, be two Edmonton - Phoenix flights each day (14 per week). The Los Angeles service will be four per week (Mon,Wed,Fri,Sat). Las Vegas remains seven per week.

2. There will thus be a net increase in Edmonton service of four flights per week. Although the airline's experience in this market may have been quite good, they do not have much capacity to throw around. In fact, with the impending US merger, there will be fewer aircraft in total. Any market even holding its own is doing well.

3. It is interesting to view this in conjunction with the new Hawaii service discussed above. It seems one will be able to book Edmonton - Hawaii flights through Phoenix. The total flight time is more than other routings, but the connections do not look too bad. (Perhaps an expert might post a more knowledgable analysis!).

Just musing.

Dream on. AS is not looking at Canada right now, let alone to SFO.

It may be Horizon not AS technically but my sources say this is who the YEG Airport Authority is discussing this route.

QX on a Q400 (can it even fly that far?) or CRJ-700? Either way its a pretty long flight, but then again its free beer and wine so that may make it better :)
