The three freighters are for regional cargo routes to China and SE Asia where 747 cargo may be too big.

Three passengers 763ER to be used for domestic and internaitnal routes. All 6 orders to be delivered between 2007 and 2008.

Total 767 fleet will grow to 46 (3 existing orders to be delivered between August and next March)

Interesting order for a late-1970s design aircraft with almost no remaining backlog of commercial orders, not even producing one a month any more. If it weren't for holding out for the Air Force tanker contract am sure Boeing would have let production go a while back.

Must have got a good discount. Would normally be more logical to pick up some secondhand examples for a few years until the 787 arrives (though I don't think JAL has ever had a secondhand jet). Are these the last passenger 767s to be ordered ?

Boeing give them for free to JAL. Exactly for invoice price.

JAL must have got them on clearance at a fire-sale price. The 763ER is a proven and reliable if aging-designed aircraft so it will serve them well. I am surprised we see anymore 767 orders anymore esp. with the 787 coming out soon and I'm sure there is a good supply of them on the used market, but a lot probably with D checks. Well good for Boeing to have sales of any aircraft.
