France - supermarkets by eiffel tour???View Full Version : supermarkets by eiffel tour??? gatemando Jun 29, 05, 7:10 pm can anyone tell me the location(s) of supermarkets (monoprix, ed, other) near the eiffel tour?? THANKS! magexpect Jun 29, 05, 7:59 pm can anyone tell me the location(s) of supermarkets (monoprix, ed, other) near the eiffel tour?? THANKS! To my knowledge there is none "close". The Eiffel tower is set in a big park surrounded by historical buildings on one side and the Seine on the other and by a very affluent neighbourhood on the other two sides. You'd have to walk at least a mile before finding a Monoprix, but behind some of the expensive appartment buildings there are many small shops where you'll find almost everything you'd find in a Monoprix and not automatically more expensive. Good luck in finding what you need. PaulasPain Jun 30, 05, 12:24 am can anyone tell me the location(s) of supermarkets (monoprix, ed, other) near the eiffel tour?? THANKS! There's a Franprix at 11 RUE DU CHAMP DE MARS, which is about 2~3 blocks southeast of the eiffel tower (about 2 blks east of the middle of the champ de mars park, cross av de la bourdonnais, then av bosquet). There's also a Monoprix at 2 rue du commerce in the 15th, which is toward the metro stop La Motte Picquet Grenelle, about 5~6 blks away. Mountain Trader Jun 30, 05, 5:47 pm There's also a decent sized supermarket at the Ecole Militaire intersection, about a 10 minute walk from the tower itself and just across the street form the park. wideman Jul 1, 05, 6:50 am This thread really points out the need for a supermarket directly underneath the T.E. That space is being wasted now, and it's long past time to put it to good use. There's certainly enough space, not just for a supermarket, but for a decent-sized upscale mall. Maybe some of the shops from Forum des Halles can move there. And for those bleeding hearts who want art instead of shopping, how about a nice trompe d'oeil under the Arc de Triomphe? cph_flyer Jul 1, 05, 9:08 am This thread really points out the need for a supermarket directly underneath the T.E. Plenty of room there for a shopping center, bowling alley, etc. bbkenney Jul 3, 05, 1:43 pm I assume you are American. If you are going to be in France a long while, the sure cure for homesickness is a small grocery very close to ET which has all American products. Its true you cant very well use Bisquick if you're staying at the Hilton, but if you're in an apartment...different story. Very near to Rue Suffren, local English language events magazines will have it advertised. ScottC Jul 6, 05, 10:21 pm I was very sad to see that the refreshments on the top level are some generic French place, and not a Starbucks. You're thinking of The Real McCoy at 194 rue de Grenelle, which is in the Eiffel Tower area but not really close to Ave. Suffren. |
