Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - 74J Upper Deck - Question re: Merits of 86HK related to 87HK

Let me start by stating that 86A and C are unavailable. That said, for a long haul flight if 86H and K were available, would you select those over 87HK?

I understand that the legroom is superior in 86, but is it worth the trade off for the distance of the monitors in the seatback in front of the exit door, and the reduced side compartment space (or, so I have read)? Or, is the distance not a strain on the eyes, and the storage space really a non-issue (as there should be sufficient space in the overhead for a garment bag anyway) making the selection of available 86HK a no-brainer?

Thanks in advance.

It depends how tall you are, how good your distance vision is, whether you are on your own or travelling as a couple, and whether it's a night or day flight.

87HK are no different from most of the other upstairs seats.

For day I would tend towards 87HK rather than 86HK.
On my own I would tend towards 86 rather than 87 (and for a couple 87 rather than 86)
If my distance vision were good that would favour 86, but otherwise 87.
If you are over about 5'10" and want to sleep then take 86 unless you are very happy having a space where you can't get even close to stretched out in which case 87.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the very quick response.

It depends how tall you are
I am 5'8", and my wife is 5'4", which is why I was thinking that we were we to choose 87, we would likely not be cramped.

how good your distance vision is
Our vision is fine. I guess what I meant by strain was an abnormally distant screen to view as opposed to the back of the seat in front of you.

and whether it's a night or day flight.
CX881 LAX-HKG, meaning all but I guess the last two hours in darkness.

Is there just the one window next to 86K for viewing outside, or is there really no view whatsoever?

It is not difficult to see the screens from 86HK. They are, at most, a foot farther than on the standard seats. The screens are still large enough that you will have no problems.

86K does have windows. 86H does not have much of a view, unless your neck is double jointed. They are fine seats, IMO. Most folks avoid 86HK due to the lack of overheads and only one locker at the window. It's all personal preference.
