Why is it that the Hertz reservations system is so braindead that they cannot add the number to a booking after you have made a reservation? Seriously frustrating.

Really, in Europe the entire #1 Club Gold deal is frustrating whenever you do cross-country rentals. CDP codes only work in certain countries, and I am often quoted 30% cheaper rates when I choose not to log in before making the reservation. Naturally, reserving without logging in strips me of all #1 Club Gold perks (except queue standing, as I will go to the counter and act dumb) -- including the qualifying rentals I need to become PC.

Avis allows you to add the Wizard number any time any place, and does not try to enforce your country of residence. Much more convenient.

Has anyone out there been able to add a #1 Club Gold number after a booking has been made? Any tricks?

Yeah, as discussed earlier in this post (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=440466) Hertz enforces their pricing policy based on country of residence very strict. :( Especially within Europe I have strong doubts whether this is actually lawful. I mean, wouldn't we all be a little surprised when McDonalds charges you twice the amount of the person in front of you, just because you happen to reside in a different part of Europe?

The only way to add your #1 Club Gold after making a reservation is by calling the station directly and let them add your number. This will not change your initial rate. However, not all locations provide this service, I was for example able to do this at ZRH and LIS, but LAX referred me to central reservations (where they will make a requote).

Hmm. This makes sense. Seems like the stations manage this better than the helpdesk. Making a reservation at OSL I manage to get the Norwegian rates only when calling the station directly and reserving with them...
