Can't say enough good things about the Hilton Glasgow.

Perhaps the following will help as well:

Hilton Dunkeld - Perthsire
Hilton Coylumbridge - Inverness-shire
Hilton Craigendarroch - Royal Deeside

There is also the Hilton Aviemore near the Whiskey Trail. The staff was great when I was there 2 years ago. Hotel is older and a little run down but the staff more than made up for it. Also short train rides to other neat little towna and Inverness and Loch Ness are only about 45 minutes away by train.

I am trying to put together a trip to Scotland including Edinburgh, Glasgow, and the Highlands? Can anyone recommend which hotels they enjoyed staying in recently? (This is a leisure trip and I already did a search.)

You will enjoy Scotland!

Hilton Caledonian is central in Edinburgh, just off Princess Street and a very good hotel 5*. Recommended certainly. Nickname the Caley

Have done them all in Scotland you must put on your list the - Hilton Dunkeld House, North of Perth - country house type hotel and leased to Hilton by the Duke of Atholl - used to be his family "country seat.". Not a "slick City" type hotel this place gives loads of Scottish charm - good leisure complex and close to the river Tay (20 yds), you will have a great stay here with lots of walks!! If you really want to impress your good lady try for the "boaty room," a bed carved out of a boat -or the Duchess Suite with the 4 poster bed . Friday night is Scottish dance night and the locals join in with their kilts etc. and Saturday night is a dinner dance.

Hilton Glasgow is 5* also - City hotel and worthy of its rating!

Have a great time!

Hilton Dunblane-Hydro is a beautiful castle front hotel, great landscaping and property, rooms are so-so, but breakfast buffet is excellent. Great restaurants in Sterling a few miles away.

Caledonian is much nicer than Grosvenor in Edinburgh.

Agree with most of the above. Would also add Craigendarroch which is near Balmoral Castle and Aberdeen. Last June, as Diamond, we were given a junior suite in the original building with four poster bed and jacuzzi bathroom. Old country type hotel, with extension added on the back. Very popular hotel as it is beside some Hilton timeshare lodges. Unfortunately, I think Balmoral Castle closes from around the end of June as the Royal Family spends a few months there for their summer retreat. Wonderful scenery around Royal Deeside and the surrounding Glenshee area, especially if the sun shines, which doesn't happen all the time!

Was at Glasgow Hilton a couple of months ago and have stayed there several times. Hotel has an Executive floor and as Diamond you should be given access to the lounge, which is small but pleasant. All rooms have air conditioning and as Diamond, we usually get one of the larger end rooms, which are bigger than standard rooms. Not great views from the hotel as it's situated beside the M8 motorway, but still a good base for Glasgow (a few minutes walk from the hotel) and the beautiful Loch Lomond. You might like to try Minskys restaurant, based on a New York Deli - compare it to the real thing!

Have always been disappointed with Edinburgh Caledonian, because of several bad experinces there. Hotel is in great location, but I never thought it was worthy of it's 5 star rating, especially as it's rooms did not have air conditioning. The hotel is currently going through a major refurbishment and hopefully that should soon be corrected. Be aware that the hotel prices are very expensive in July and August during the summer period, especially when the Edinburgh Festival and Edinburgh Military Tattoo are staged in August and the city is extremely busy. Don't know whether Diamonds can get awards during this busy period.

Also like Dunkeld House Hilton, which has been described above.

Stayed in Edinburgh last week. Due to late afternoon arrival and time to kill I booked into the Hilton Edinburgh Airport. Was upgraded, left bottles of water, and a nice letter from the Manager was in the room. I liked the hotel, It was clean, tidy and had good facilities. I was picked up from the Airport by the hotel bus which was free. Decided to go into Edinburgh town later so hoped on the shuttle bus, (stop outside the hotel) and was in the town within 25 Minutes cost £5 return.
Next day free shuttle to Caledonian for 1 night. The hotel is good but still undergoing renovation. The room was great but not treated as well here as Airport hilton. I considered the Hilton Grosvenor but it is not as good as the other 2 Hiltons IMHO. Next day, a 2 minute walk to Sheraton for 2 nights. I prefer this to the Caledonian. I am gold here, and was upgraded to a Grand room, Bottled water etc and free spa.
If its Hiltons your after then I like the Airport or the cally. Would avoid the grosvenor.

Sure, but willing to be corrected, that the Dunblane Hydro has been recently sold

Hi folks.

I recently stayed at Dunblane and the very knowlegable front desk lady said that Dunblane and all the others that were sold will be operating under the Hilton Brand to the Autumn and some to the end of the year. In addition this same information was told to me by the Duty Manager at the Grosvenor in Edinburgh and the front desk at East Kilbride too.

No specific dates but Hilton must be wanting the lucrative summer business before getting shot of them!!

Cheers

Alan

I'm staying there in two weeks, understand they are keeping Hilton management even though it appears to be purchased by Starwood.

Last November my husband & I stayed in Edinburgh for a few nights. The first night we were in the Grosvenor Hilton -- it's kind of a dump near a dumpy area, I wouldn't recommend it. The next couple nights we stayed at the Caledonian Hilton. We had a room on a high floor--very sumptuous--with a view of the castle, & it was more in the middle of things (although there aren't any Hiltons in the Old City). We very much liked THAT Hilton. Hope you have a great trip!

I found the caledonian quite creepy. I swear it is haunted!

It's a very old property.

technonot-
You say the Grosvenor is near a dumpy area? It's in the West-End of Edinburgh. In my opinion, and definitely going by house prices, one of the nicest areas in Edinburgh. I live quite close to the Grosvenor - the 5th cresent of the set actually. It is definitely not a dumpy area.

This recent thread:

discusses the sale of 11 UK Hiltons and the Edinburgh Grosvenor seems to be on the list.

The Grosvenor certainly is not in a dumpy area, it's in a very nice area. It's also very reasonably priced and I always get a nice room.

Personally, I have issues with the Caley, firstly about their total lack of regconition (and sometimes not even getting the room I booked) and secondly about their security staff. If the EDI Grosvenor falls out of the Hilton system, I will be off to the Sheraton tout suite.

As for Glasgow, the Glasgow Hilton is very nice, but the Glasgow Grosvenor is a wee bit more convienient for where I usually have to be and I usually get a suite :D

We stayed at the Caledonian in April on a Reward Stay and were upgraded to a great room, with a welcome gift of a bottle of wine and some butter tablet (Scottish fudge).

Here (http://www.craftpeople.com/Scot2_up/Edinburgh/DSC_0124t.jpg) is a picture of the room, and here (http://www.craftpeople.com/Scot2_up/Edinburgh/DSC_0099t.jpg) is a picture of the main staircase. Our room was actually on 2 levels- sleeping area was down a few steps. There were doors to the hall in the sleeping area and the working area. Sean Connery stays there- that's good enough for us! Room rates and food prices dreadfully expensive (due partly to weakness of $$) but our total bill ran about $20- for my Internet connections.

We stayed at the Hilton Treetops in Aberdeen in late 2001- definitely so-so and a bit out of the way although the bus system into town is good.

I personally like Glasgow (has Executive lounge), Dunkeld and Craigendarroch. If you do a search, you'll find a lot of threads on these and other hotels. Generally, the experiences are mixed for all UK hotels. Some like the Edinburgh Caledonian, which has a great location, but I have always had bad experiences there. The weather is also a factor on when you holiday in Scotland - it tends to rain a lot. But we did have wonderful weather in July this year when we spent a week touring - even the Scots were surprised!
Here's a thread from last year which has some interesting info(Dunblane is not a Hilton any longer), but there are many others:
