due to US Women's Open. Just curious though; why would Hertz be out with all other agencies having cars available? You'd think that if Hertz was out, at least one or two of the other major rental agencies would be in the same situation. Anybody have any insight as to why Hertz was the only one out?
(A Hertz employee confided they had overbooked also by about 500 rentals).

Because Hertz is the best agency, so they are the most popular?
Considering some of the crap I have heard people have to go through when renting from Alamo or Budget (not to mention someone like Payless), I for one always choose Hertz because there will be no drama and I will be treated very well.

Is Hertz the sponsor or official rental car of the US Women’s Open?

Well if year after year for ever there have been 500 no shows then you kinda have to market based on the previous years and overbook as many.

Not too sure about the above but in the UK it's the Official transport supplier to Wimbledon Tennis for the eleventh year!

My guess is that Hertz simply has a corporate contract with the LPGA and/or the other companies that travel with the tour.

Perhaps Hertz is better than their competitors at not accepting more rentals than they can handle? I cannot even tell you how many times I had reservations in the NYC area with Avis, Enterprise and Budget only to arrive and have the agent tell me, "Sorry, we don't have any cars for you now." The agent would invariably tell me that they do the best they can to fill all their reservations but they cannot be responsible for having cars to fill all of them. I found myself like Seinfeld trying to explain to the agent that the purpose of setting up a reservation with a car company is so that there will be a car for me when I arrive, only to find completely blank stares in response. That all said, in the 200 or so Hertz rentals I have made in the past few years, the worst I have experienced is having to wait an hour for a car or having to go to another Manhattan location to get my car, and I now rent exclusively from Hertz. Much better than any of their competitors I have tried using!
