Hertz - #1 Gold/NeverLost question

Hi all. I just received my materials for #1 Gold club and I'm confused about something. On the back it says "Special Gold Services" and under that is listed "Hertz NeverLost: At a growing number of Hertz U.S. locations, you can now request Hertz NeverLost -- an in-car navigation system that directs you with audible, step-by-step driving directions to business and individual addresses."
In other items it lists, it also will say "additional charges may apply". That wording does not exist on the NeverLost blurb. Does that mean that there is no additional charge for NeverLost if you are a #1 Gold member? I can't imagine that is the case but that is how it sounds.
BTW, I called Hertz to ask but was on hold in the time it took to write this query.

If you request NL when making a res, you will be charged $9/day. If you reserve a car, do not request NL, but end up getting a car with it, you will not be charged.
If you rent a prestige vehicle, it will have NL and there is no extra charge.

FWIW the same billing policy applies to satellite radio.

And in my experience as #1 Five* Gold one may sometimes get upgraded to a car with Sirius at no add'l charge, but never with Neverlost.

Using any AAA CDP drops the NL to $8/day!

Just want to verify...if I rent a full-size SUV and do not request NEverLost, but when I get in the vehicle, there is one already in the car, even if I USE the NeverLost, I won't be charged?
i.e. there is no way to track that I used it?
There's no way to track if you use it. If it's there, enjoy it, whether or not you requested it.

As a status-less Hertz #1 Club Gold renter (and once before I even joined) I've been upgraded several times to a car with Neverlost.

Your chances of getting a car w/NL increase as you go up in car class. I always reserve F and get a premium or higher as a PC. I end up with NL about 15% of the time and I have gotten plenty of G35, Lincoln LS, Volvo S80, Explorer, Expedition, Lincoln TC's ect...... w/o NL.
The better strategy is to reserve a premium w/NL and you have a good chance of ending up with a prestige vehicle for only $9/day extra. This depends though on where you are renting from.

I assume you mean "reserve a full size w/NL", correct?

As a 5 Star member I often order a Taurus at a midtown NYC location--the free upgrade generally gets me a Mercury Marquis w/ Neverlost.

My first Gold rental last week was a whole week one-way, and the Mazda 6 had Sirius in it for free. Nice bonus (although it didn't work that great on the Northern California and Oregon coasts). But it doesn't seem uncommon. Heck, several years ago when NeverLost was still fairly new I got it free on a really cheapo weekend deal for whatever the Ford Contour was at the time with zero status (well before I really knew much of anything about frequent travel status except for airline miles).

Requesting NL can work to your advantage once in a while. Case in point, last week I requested a Full Size (F) car with NL. When I got to the airport I was upgraded to a Fully Loaded Ford Expidition with NL. I only had to pay the Full Size rate for a vehicle that would have cost me 3 x the amount if I requested it.
If you are willing to pay a little more, you may get upgraded to a better vehicle class.
Did I mention the vehicle was fully loaded, DVD and everything. I could have lived in it for a day or two.
The two or three times I've rented a Full Size with NL in CLE, I was assigned a Jag X-Type at no additional charge.
Oddly, when I requested the same at LAX, I was given a G35 without neverlost and had to trade it in for something else.
