Hertz - rent for one week + 3-4 hours... any idea for grace period?
I made a reservation at PVD for a week in Aug. It is a leisure travel for our family and we booked a mini-van.
But, due to our flight schedule, I need to rent 3-4 more hours after one-week period. I did know and confirm that the grace period at Hertz is mere one hour (or less).
I don't want to pay additional day (about $50-60) for the additional hours, and kill 3-4 hours at the airport for the last part of our family trip.
I did find that Amex Platinum CDP include a 4 hour grace period. Unfortunately, since I got a great rate with AAA discount/promotion, I doubt I can put Amex Platinum CDP in the reservation. How about just using Amex Platinum as a method of payment for getting 4 hour grace period?
Or, is there any other way to resolve the issue? I did not know much how Hertz is doing for extra hours in practice.
Thank you for your advice in advance.

There was a claim on this board that Centurion does, but I have no way of verifying that.

Most times this is an automated process.
Your best bet is to talk to someone at the time of rental, or even better call the local rental counter manager ahead of time and let them know your situation. It's all up to the local counter as to what they decide to do for you.
Have any coupons? There are a lot of coupons out there for free days or discounts, etc.

I do have coupons and codes. But, the rate code I used for the reservation is for AAA. I tried to use other coupon (PC #) with that rate code, but the rate goes rocket high (ignoring the rate code, only honoring the coupon). I even tried AAA coupon PC#, but no go.

Hertz has a 1 hr grace period.
One option is to rent an hour after you land (take your own sweet time collecting bags and going to the rental counter), use 1 hr grace period and return a couple of hours earlier and spend the couple of hours in the terminal.
If that does not work, keep in mind that Hertz charges for extra hours, not extra day right away.
1 week + 1 hr = Hertz charges 1 week due to 1 hr grace
1 week + 2 hr = Hertz charges 1 week + 1 hr due to 1 hr grace
1 week + 3 hr = Hertz charges 1 week + 2 hr due to 1 hr grace
1 week + 4 hr = Hertz charges 1 week + 1 day (3 hr extra is same as another day)
I always rent with a AAA CDP. Also, sometimes they have the Freedom rates going on, but they may not show up on the website. Try rate Code FRDM along with your AAA CDP and see if that further helps bring the weekly rate down.
Take care and have fun!

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes. I did use FRDM rate which drops the rate over $100. But, when I put a PC number for a coupon (like $25 off weekley rental), the rates goes up to the normal (only honoring the coupon, not freedom rate). I am wondering if it is normal. Is there a way to combine Freedom rate with a coupon from AAA (or from others, probably not)?

Hertz usually bumps up the rate when you use a coupon. Occasionally some coupons work with the rate codes. I have pretty much stopped using coupons any more.
$100 is more than $25! I would go for the FRDM rate and forget the coupon.

I have rarely been happy with the FRDM rates and opt for coupons instead.
