Sixt - Sixt Instant Status

View Full Version : Sixt Instant Status

I just applied for a Sixt Card and was intrigued by their dual track for status. If you rent more than 5 times in a year, you will get upgraded to Gold. If you rent more than 20 times a year, you will be given Platinum.

BUT...and this is the interesting part...most F/Ters can get one of these cards immediately -- based on their status with their airline or hotel chain.

For Gold, you need minimum elite status (Silver Medallion with Delta, Hilton Gold, etc). With some airlines, like El Al or Lufthansa, simply being a member is enough.

For Platinum, you need a higher level. OnePass Gold or Hilton Diamond will suffice.

I don't know how carefully they check. Last year I was Gold with Delta and went down to Silver this year. I decided to give myself the benefit of the doubt, applied for Platinum, and said I was Delta Gold. When I finished filling out the form, I was told that my application would be reviewed and that I would be sent either the Platinum Card or the proper card to which I am entitled.

(In other words, if they contact Delta, I will be sent the Gold.)

Generally I rent with Hertz, but I think that in Europe -- especially in Germany -- Sixt may be the better deal.

Gee, and I searched through every thread in this forum before posting. :D

Actually, I never would have thought to look in the LH Forum for information about Sixt. After your post, I did a search and came up with 305 hits on various forums -- but no way to know which just mentioned Sixt in passing and which gave the information about its status levels.

That is why TalkBoard voted to recommend that Randy start this forum -- to make it easier to find info like this.

Dovster:

Good that you posted it here ... I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

But what happens if and when I have a Sixt status?
Sixt is a good company, but often not cheaper than Avis, National etc.
Does this Sixt status - what ever it is - count also for Sixti? Sixti has some good rates for a Volvo in Germany ...

Dovster

As far as I can tell, having a regular Sixt card means that you have a special line like Hertz's Gold Club.

Having Sixt Gold status gives you that line plus a 25% discount on standard rates and guarantees you a rental within 12 hours of you asking for it.

Having Platinum gives you the line, a 35% discount, and a guarantee of a rental within 6 hours.

I don't believe that any of this applies to Sixti.

can I just add that even with only the 'regular' Sixt card, I have had upgrades 3 out of 3 renting from AMS (twice from Golf to Merc E class, once from Golf to Volvo XC70). :D

If only they still gave BA miles......

If you live in Germany you might get better rates with the "Happy Digits Sixt Card". Gold/Platinum gives you 25%/35% off the INTERNATIONAL RATES, while the the Happy Digit card gives you 20% off the EUROPEAN RATES.

For my personal rental pattern I almost always get cheaper rates with the Happy Digits rebate (I have two Sixt cards and decide for every rental which card to use).

YMMV!

I e-mailed a copy and got this back:

That's odd -- they did not ask me to send them a copy of my Delta Gold card (probably a good thing as it expired a few months ago).

Nor did I get a letter telling me that my Sixt Card has been issued.

An update on pricing in Germany:

Sixt has about the same pricelevel like National and Avis.
I booked Sixti for half the price...and will get A Volvo S-40 or a Ford Mondeo.

Sixti change their rules:

The most important changes in the rental conditions:
• No charges for cleaning, refuelling and reservation changes
• Increase in the free kilometres to 500 kilometres for vehicle categories above the SMART
• Increase in the maximum rental period to 100 days

Doesn't the S40/Mondeo class cost EUR 49 per day at Sixti? In my experience usually you get at Sixt a similar car for about the same price, but then you still have all the benefits of your Sixt express card depending on its color. For me the most important (Platinum):

- Usually no waiting, no hassle, good service
- Renting a Mercedes A class on average I get a Mercedes C class (in Germany)
- 2000 LH miles at certain locations, if I use ring&rent

I know, Sixt has a good service. I have Gold (number), thanks to Dovster, and with Sixti I pay less than Euro 300 for a Volvo S40 or Mondeo. A similar car with Sixt is almost Euro 600 (after rebate).

In the US, I like the National Emerald service ... I have a choice of cars. That doesn't work the same way in Europe .. I have to go to the counter. Same with Avis and Hertz.

I've also not heard/received anything since filling out my form for Plat??

I filled out my application for Platinum on June 21 and received an answer today approving it. It said I will get the card within 15 days.

It is possible that they take longer for Platinum than they do for Gold, but I can't see why they would.

On the other hand, they did not ask for any proof of my Delta status. The delay might have been caused while they waited for an answer from Delta. Here, too, I have to wonder -- I currently have Delta Silver Medallion status, which only qualifies me for Sixt Gold. Until February, I had Delta Gold Medallion, which does qualify me for Sixt Platinum, so they may have asked Delta for further background on me.

I need to rent a car in South Africa next year. As DL PM and HHonors Diamond, it sounds like I can get Sixt Platinum. For a one time rental for two days costing around $300 with fees, is this worth it? Do they guarantee upgrades thus allowing me to choose cheaper car (I'm one of those americans that can't drive a stick)?

I think you always get the reduced rate ... you have to book, sign in through a special website, which is difficult to find.

I think it's here: http://www.e-sixt.com/cgi-perl/rental/or?language=en&action=express

When you book, it shows you the discount.

No benefit except for the 35% discount you received !!! I generally always get an upgrade if I book a lower class of car. If I really want a Mercedes C-Class though I go ahead and book it - never been upgraded to an E-Class.

This is great stuff! I'm headed to Germay for three months and a Sixt Card should be very handy.

Note that the application page says your info including CC# will be sent by SSL but I never saw the little padlock close on my browser. The first try failed and I had to submit it twice! This may make the application a nonstarter for some people. Too late for me.

I may have to call as I leave in a couple of weeks so the office contact jonnye

...and even the simple Gold card is good for decent upgrades. I always book IDMR (A3) or sometimes SDMR (A4), depending which one is cheaper, and never ever recieved anything lower than PDMR. The last weeks I had an E270, 2x BMW530, 2x A6 2,7.

That made me switching over from Europcar :D

I usually rent once a week and always rent at city offices, never at airports. Maybe thats the reason.... ;)

I rent a lot cars at Sixt (sold my own car a year ago) and always a city station on a short time frame.
If you choose options like navigation and automatic transmission, the chances to get another car than requested are quite good – and I am only Gold.

From my experinces with them in the past, it was quite good to get another car than booked if you do this only a short time in advance. Since a few month, it seems, they have upgrade the system showing the availability of cars, because some groups are not available at every Sixt Station and some Stations show no availability for requested dates.

My experiences with them in this year (reservation was made the time 10 - 25 hours in advance); but in this short time frame not every car is available.
I book always the lowest or second lowest available categorie or a special group if I for example need a station wagon. I always choose as option Navigation and Automatic transmission (I know, a Fiest is not availble with nor Automatic neither Navigation)

Sixt Düsseldorf Central Station
booked Ford Fiesta (ECMR) got VW Golf
booked Mercedes A (CLMR) got Volvo V 50
booked Audia A 2 (CDMR), got Mercedes CLS automatic transmission
booked Audi A 3 got Audi A 3
booked VW Passat Variant (SWMR), got BMW X 3 (but rejected, as an SUV is not covered by the insurance included in my credit card and got as I need a Station Wagon a Ford Mondeo (downgrade)
booked Audi A 3 (IDMR) got BMW 1 Series (no upgrade), which had after an hour driving a breakdown (electronic malfunction, no ESP, ABS, Power Steering, etc), changed to a SLK for the rest of a sunny weekend :D

Sixt Frankfurt
booked Ford Fiesta (ECMR), got Mercedes A

Just did LHR again... reserved a compact, and got a compact (CDMR Class). They had C230 Kompressor coupes and several Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4's. I got a Honda Civic.... but I have to also note that the Civic's there were all automatic, spankin'-new, with moonroofs and leather interior!

That marks my 5th in a row where I didn't get a single upgrade. I often found lower prices thru Sixt's promotions. The car I got was only £35 for one day. If I used my Platinum rates, £33.70 a day, but let's not forget the Service Fee which is £20 a day, bringing the total to £53.70. I suspect I would get better rates by looking for promotions offered on sixt.co.uk

I plan to go to Germany over Thanksgiving and I have reserved a BMW 525i/530d - what are the chances I would get an upgrade to maybe.. let's say.. 730d? Through Europcar, anybody could get a rate of 150,€ in FRA. I have rented Audi A8, BMW 730d, Benz S350, and VW Phaeton from Europcar. Sixt does not advertise these cars on their website if you do not log in with your Sixt Platinum card. Once I logged in, the prices were significantly higher than 150,€.

Doe anybody know what cars (XXAR or XDAR) are offered thru Sixt? Europcar apparently doesn't do Phaeton TDI or A8 TDI anymore and most cars there are no longer diesel. I really want to get the A8 V-10 TDI again or even a BMW 740d.

the LH T&C dont exclude cars from Mercedes-Benz from insurance,
but
the LH Visa card coveres a maximum of 50000,- Euros, if the car is more worth than that and you have a full crash you have to pay for the difference e.g. car price is 60000 you pay 10000.

I am committed to Sixt for the following reasons:

1. As an LH SEN I get an automatic Platinum Sixt card
2. As an LH SEN I get a SEN Gold Visa Card which covers my comprehensive insurance when hiring through Sixt.
3. I live in Germany (Sixt's home market)
4. When hiring from Sixt I get the 35% Platinum discount + free insurance (exclusiv) rate.
5. I ALWAYS get bumped, as a regular hirer (I'd qualify for gold or plantinum most years as I don't own my own car) I know the guys at FRA zentrum and they just give stuff away to me (or so it feels).

I've had bad experiences 2/2 with Sixt AMS and mediocre with Sixt STN 2/2 but LHR has always been 2/5 fine or 3/5 really good.

If I had to complain about one thing, its their lack of 'on airport' parking or out-of-hours opening times last time I had to drop a car on a one way at Thrifty (do a runner) and call Sixt LGW from AMS and tell them the car was in their competitors car park because I wasn't going to drop it in Redxxxx? and get a taxi to the airport for 25 quid just because their helpdesk claimed they were 'at' the airport. The LGW was used to this though

Okay, what would the XDAR (or XXAR) class cars be in Germany, especially Frankfurt? So far, I've heard of Audi A8 4.2. I am hoping at least some of them would be a turbodiesel in Frankfurt because I'm driving all the way to Paris and with gas now €1.50 per litre in France ($1.85 a litre or $7.00 a gallon) I am far more inclined to ask for a turbodiesel.

Hi kwoj,

what do you mean with it is only valid for corporate rentals?

check balance

Hi,

the T&Cs state that the insurance is only valid for corporate rentals, because you could use the Card with the business package (95€) only for Business expenses.

kwoj

This business/non-business distinction is enforced by VISA only: They require the card issuing banks to offer both a normal and a business version of their credit cards. Lufthansa and their insurance company are neither interested in the type of your expenses nor in the reasons for your car rental, therefore the insurance is valid for any rental. On demand they'll even send you a letter stating this.

Regards,
Stefan

...Actually, I never would have thought to look in the LH Forum for information about Sixt. After your post, I did a search and came up with 305 hits on various forums -- but no way to know which just mentioned Sixt in passing and which gave the information about its status levels.
...

Silly wabbitt, it was the sixth thread.... :D

I am Platinum and get this with http://www.e-sixt.com/:

Dear Mr. USAFAN,
'ComfortLogin' is activated.
Reserve a car here even quicker - at your rates.

Rates for Ameniti (United Airlines).
Country: Germany
Rate: INTER. STANDARD -30%

As an LH SEN / Sixt Platinum member you will get a 35% rebate. I believe if you get the Sixt Amex Gold card they will give you a 40% discount.
Personally I will stick with their 35% discount as my Amex Centurion has a CDW insurance coverage, which the Sixt Amex does not have. This is worth more than the 5% difference in rate. Sixt does incredible rates for weekends. As a Platinum member you can get a Mercedes E-Class for ca. EUR 69 per weekend. (Fri 12.00 - Mon 09.00)

That's odd -- they did not ask me to send them a copy of my Delta Gold card (probably a good thing as it expired a few months ago).

Nor did I get a letter telling me that my Sixt Card has been issued.

It will be interesting to see what happens.

:td: Have a look at that site:
http://www.sanirentals.com

I know many people who lost money with car rental.
With your credit card number thay can do everything!!!

I have a sixt platinum card, and get a supposed 35% discount.

but i always find it is much better to book with holiday cars section of the sixt website. they offer unlimited mileage and full insurance, so what on earth do i need the platinum card for?

the quotes i get from holiday cars are generally much cheaper, and include unlimited mileage and full insurance, when compared to the main sixt site after i put in my card number and surname.

so what advantages is there of holding a sixt platinum card?

Would someone please post or PM me the SIXT email address used to verify partner status? I just applied for the Gold card on their site using my Leader's Club number (from the email the Leader's Club sent) and didn't realize that my Hyatt Diamond would give me Plat. Hopefully I can email them before they process the gold membership.

Thank you.

anyone?

Platinum also gives you a 20% discount on Sixt Holiday Cars rentals. The discount doesn't apply to promotional rates, but I just had a one-week rental in Portugal where the standard rate minus 20% was still lower that the promo rate they had at the time. (Also note that you can't get the discount online, but have to book by phone.)

Good question - they could easily give you a "promotion code" to enter into the online booking form. Maybe because of the abuse risk, but then again they could always check your platinum card when you pick up the car.

I think the best way to get an upgrade is, when you use "Sixt's call before service" - it's called Sixt Express, and you also get 2,000 Miles & More miles.

The NEW (2006) S-Class arrived Sept. 24, 2005 at the German dealers show room. The German Sixt website doesn't show the NEW "S" (yet) for rental ... but you can lease it (long term)

http://www.e-sixt.de/gfx/lease/cfg/photolib/SSCD-400/MERCEDES/S-CLASS/2006/4SA.JPG

I have already seen them for rental or at least in use in MUC.

I understand. But a "Day, Week, Weekend, Month" costs a lot more in Florida in winter than in summer. The same might be true in Europe .. during holidays, fairs (Messe) ....
Anyway, Wiggum's list gives me a pretty good picture.
Thanks.

I don't know how carefully they check.
My experience indicates that they do not check. I saw this thread and applied for the Sixt Gold Card. However, I made a mistake in the application process -- I did key in my LH FTL number but somehow managed to change the program name (from the drop down box) into TAP Air Porgugal. I got approved a few days later, nevertheless. Had they done any checking, they would have realized that a) the number did not come from TAP and b) I am not a TAP FFP member.

But the card is in the mail...

Cheers,
T.

Could a LH HON member (--> Sixt Diamond) post her/his rates, please?

just take zerbib's rate (35% discount). then you also know fullprice and just need to subtract 40% because that's exactly what hons get. I started sixt gold with 25% got plat then with 35 e.g. zerbib and hon will bring you a bit more down.
http://www.miles-and-more.com/online/portal/mam/de/programm/hon_circle?l=de&nodeid=1310782

BTW it's interesting that sixt reduced their weekend-rate PDMR and bigger sizes that much. Seems as if they have problems to rent out these cars on weekends what is finally not that surprising.

Seems like the mobility guarantee is worth it ^ Just tried to book a rental out of CPT for middle of next month on the Holidays Cars website but it said there were no vehicles available. Logged into the site for the discount and was able to price up a number of different vehicles...unfortunately $440 (incl. discount) for five days in a VW Polo but hey!

We are doing the rental in my girlfriends name as I am not old enough to drive in SA yet, is there a way to put my Platinum card number in the booking for discount and preferential upgrades? She is a Gold...

Not according to Sixt in Israel. I tried putting my Platinum number on a reservation my Used Italian Girlfriend was making and they refused.

Try nathan.benger@sixt.de

Anyone get a response from this?

Am just sending an email on behalf of my girlfriend. She comped her SPG Gold status but has managed to lose the email with her number in it. People on the phone couldn't seem to help. Anyone have another Sixt email address.

Thanks

I thought it would be interesting to start discussing our Sixt experience again. So I start myself. 8 rentals so far this year and got an upgrade all the time, when I rented a compact twice I even got double and triple upgrades. One out of this two was not wellcomed, as I just wanted to a have small car for easy parking. But I'll not complain about this one...

Well, not everything worked out perfekt with this rentals. Two times the car was dirty. I'd not complain if it would be just outside, but I hate it if the interior is dirty. But I got a compensation and so no need to complain, either.

To conclude till now just good experience with Sixt. I hope that we'll see the 2000 M&M miles back at R&R.

two times FRA, once MUC, GVA and TXL. On the other rentals I used downtown stations. I still heard that Sixt does hardly upgrade at LHR. I think there are some posts about it here in the thread!?

I know that HON's are entitled to a Sixt Diamond Card which gives you double M&M miles and double upgrades if available. Does Sixt just hand out this card to HON's or are there other ways to get it?

Did you even ASK for the upgrade or???

Three times, I did not ask... Two times, I asked... NOTHING :(

I am renting from FRA this upcoming weekend.. I reserved 530d... Will see if I get a nicer car! (Fingers crossed for Audi A8!)

Yeah I hope you will get one. At least it would be the time to, after 7 rentals with none. But getting an upgrade from PDMR or something similar to XDAR will be difficult. Just got one a few times.
That's why often reserve FDMR and get an upgrade to PDMR which is much more likely.

Normally I don't ask for an upgrade but ask for a diesel and that's it. Again, hope you'll get your upgrade!

The price difference between IDAR and LDAR was only approximately €30 for the entire weekend.. but from LDAR to XDAR, it was another €70.

By the way, it's been a while.. what kind of fleet does Sixt have in FRA? So far, I've heard of Benz S320 and Audi A8. Do you know if Sixt has any turbo diesel vehicles in its XDAR fleet?

Nope, at least not with US even if you were US *G as US is not a Sixt partner. BTW. there are not that many perks for Sixt Gold and if you only rent once I wouldn't mind to be Gold.

Concerning prices (for compact and smarler cars) you are probably right.

There are some disadvantages using Sixti.
(1) There are only a few stations compared to "normal" Sixt service. If you arrive at FRA T1 it's quite troublesome to rent at Sixti as you have to go to T2 which is somewhat time consuming...

(2) If you want to have something else than a compact car, Sixti is not the way to go, as they only have cars up to compact. If you are lucky you can get a Mercedes A-class but that's it.

BTW If you book via internet more than 2 weeks in advance you have a good chance to get the same or even a better rates than plat

Okay, I am now in FRA.. and, yes, I reserved PDAR and they gave me XDAR! :) A nice BMW 730d. However, I had numerous problems and I am not sure what to do. I drove it on the A9 from Nuernberg to Berlin and it was snowing. The car had no traction and I could not control it. Even at 10 km/h, a small tap on the brake caused the ABS brake to react. At the same time, there were cars passing me going over 70 km/h (it was snowing very hard).

I had to stop and discovered the car did not have snow tires. I was forced to leave the car on the parking lot of a supermarket, paid a taxi €130 to drive me from Gera to Chemnitz, and I had to pick up a different car.. a VW Polo! :(

Still, Sixt was very helpful in getting ADAC. It seems they both have a partnership because there was a Sixt in the ADAC parking lot.

Had the same problem with a Sixt car (BMW 5er) last weekend on a snowy autobahn (A4). The car had no traction. It was quite difficult to accelerate because of the rear wheel drive. Had no snow tires, too. :( You can reserve a car with snow tires but you have to pay 15,50 EUR a day. Will be interesting to see what they'll do next winter cause there shall be a new statute that all cars need to have snow tires in some regions in wintertime. I am not familiar with the details.

BTW ADAC is a partner of Sixt. Here (http://ag.sixt.com/partner/partnerdpl.php3?PARTNERDIR=more&PARTNER=adac.txt) is the link.

Did you have to leave the car behind?

I am concerned Sixt may charge me for towing fees. I am from California, the land that never snows, and I completely forgot about checking for snow. Also, the A9 was completely stopped so I went on A4 which was covered in snow during Friday night, which explains why I took the taxi from Gera to Chemnitz. I left the car at the Globus Supermarket in Gera.

Were you also driving Saturday night? The autobahn was covered in snow that night!

Edited to Change: "Saturday" instead of "Friday" - I left LAX Friday, arrived in Saturday... wasn't thinking.

Werden Winterreifen Pflicht?
Die geplante Einführung der Winterreifenpflicht sorgt für Verwirrung. Lesen Sie, was tatsächlich dran ist

Worum geht es also?

German law requires that you stop/park the car, if the tires are 'insufficient' However, this is a very 'broad statute'! Sixt would have used this (not to pay), if you had an accident...!

Here is a Google translation:

Do winter tires become obligation?
The planned introduction of the winter tire obligation provides for confusion. Read, what to is actual
of Roland Bunke

Hasty messages moved at the beginning of the yearly by daily papers, radio and television: "government plans introduction of the winter tire obligation - with offence penalty threatens!" The message is however an example of a misleading, shortened agency message.

About what does it go thus? According to Federal Ministry of Transport is planned to insert a passage to the winter equipment during the next revision of road traffic regulations (StVO). According to the novella "with snow smoothness or ice is each endangerment of others by the equipment to exclude".

Afterwards it must count on a caution money of 20 euro who with snow and ice with "insufficient" tires and "insufficient equipment" (approximately without tire chains) drives its car.

With additional handicap of traffic 40 euro are to become due penalty and one point in Flensburg. Will apply however at the earliest in the next winter. From this follows: The general obligation to draw up in the winter in Germany winter tire will not come (like the regulations in Europe are, explains the map). Even in the planned passage the speech is not express only from "insufficient" tires, from "winter tires". It will thus arrive in the doubt on the individual case - the policeman as a tire supervisor.

Naturally it drives more surely who with snow and ice with winter tires on the way is, and it avoids also a in the future due penalty. In the doubt the car must be evenly left untouched, so the Federal Ministry of Transport when insufficient tyre. This consequence follows meanwhile already today from the basic rule that a driver must control its vehicle always surely.

And: Into Germany regulations can be already issued to drive with winter tires or tire chains for certain distances. Who offends against it, pays already today.

I'm glad I did not get into an accident! It was really difficult to drive this car on thick snow.

Still, I am not criticising Sixt. I am very happy with the way I have been treated and I still plan to rent from them again. The price they offer is not the lowest, but very low. The service I have received has always been good. The representative in FRA Sixt said that I would not be charged for the towing. I have been very satisfied and I see no reason to change.

Yeah, it was sunday in the early morning 4-6 am and no, I drove on but very slow. The autobahn was full on snow and you couldn't even see the tarmac. BTW it wasn't better an sunday evening when I drove back. Again the road was totally white but is time there where even plenty of cars on the autobahn so it was even more dangerous. Never went to Gera or Chemnitz so far - is there anything special to see?

Concerning Sixt, I am quite satisfied, too. I split my rentals between Hertz and Sixt but normally I rent with Hertz in the US and Sixt in Europe. Hertz has a poor service in germany, while sixt offers a pretty good customer service. Good to hear that they didn't charged any towing fee. I'd have had expect that they don't.

Wow, we were on the same autobahn although I was further east... I was there three hours before you. :) I found myself unable to drive after arriving in Gera, it was absolutely dangerous having the ABS kick in violently after a small tap at 10 km/h. I drove back Monday afternoon and it was much better, in a different car equipped with snow tires (Ford Fiesta, puh!).

I was only in Chemnitz and Dresden because the A9 from Nuernberg to Berlin was backed up badly and my friend in Berlin looked up the internet and advised me to take the A4 to Dresden, then A13 to Berlin. I have only been to Dresden, DDR, in 1988 but it is now very different. Berlin is the only city in Germany I am very familiar with.

Sixt has consistently gone out of their way to make me happy. I don't expect upgrades or anything, but the service is clearly superior. I am also happy with the network of Sixt car rental companies in Europe.

I only had one bad experience with Sixt in LHR about five years ago - but that was when it was new and everybody there was new. I'll be forgiving this time :)

Ah, yes, Sixti is only through the website. Believe it or not, but the website's actually good with availability. If it doesn't show up as available, then it's really not available. With Sixt (not Sixti), the cars are not pre-paid so people can be a no-show sometimes. There's more flexibility.

In fact, I have never seen a Sixti car in FRA. I guess they deliberately keep very few cars there! There's also mileage caps, and the car has to be clean when it's dropped off. They WILL nitpick over every single scratch, ding, and dents on the car.

If you want only Sixt, then the number I provided is good. Sixti has only three sizes, up to intermediate. Don't expect luxury or even premium cars. Also, their cars are all flashy with "Sixti" covered all over it. Free advertising for them, you rent it really cheap, it's a win-win.

If it's not clean, I think they charge you a bit... it's much like www.easycar.co.uk - peeling off the huge orange "EasyCar" on the car can net a £100 penalty! Cleaning the car was £10, I think.

There are not only Smarts with flashy advertisement but also Ford Focus. I am absolutely sure because I still had one and I saw other several times, when I pciked but my "normal" sixt car.

Hey AlexHam

as far as I know (or let's say I am quite sure) it's not possible to post pics here. You need to use any other website to post pics and then add the link here.

Good news: I don't think it was a hallucination :D

That's all I know:

1. It's not 'my list' - it's a press release from Sixt.
Please read here > http://ag.sixt.de/presse/news/mitteilung.php?sel_msg=20050131
However, 'my list' is a cut and paste from this link and might be misleading due to missing tabs. It should read for Sixti: Beklebte Fahrzeuge (nur SMART)

2. My cars did not have any flashy ads

3. I did not see a Sixt car at FRA with flashy ads

4. Sixti should not have Ford Focus, only Ford Mondeo

Bottom line - It doesn't matter who is right or not. The question is, should photog72 even consider Sixti? I believe yes, when he want's to save some money. photog72 should look at the 'restrictions' at the link above.

You are right with your "bottom line" , but when u correct other users(post #134) and write that they are "story-tellers", u have to post true things and don´t post wrong things again, even if these things are obviously unimportend.

The press release is from 01.01.2005.........-says everything, it is not up to date.
And visit the sixti website, there u can still rent the Ford Focus.........

So,please try to make a difference between "i know" and " i think i know"

But it is ok, it´s a forum :)

I second this. Normally your posts are quite helpful, USAFAN. But you should argue more differentiated and do not bash other, just because not all of their information are right (btw, most were correct in this case by previous posters!). It's helpful to be corrected if someone makes mistakes but we should respect the etiquette on FT. That is what makes FT such a great board, at least IMHO.

As kwoj suggests, only M&M Hon's are entitled to get the Sixt Diamond card. But it's only the color of the card we are talking about.

You'll get the same discount (40% off for all discountable rates - internet rates are NOT discountable!) and a double upgrade with two other programs but Sixt will only give you a Plat card. The following programs will entitle you to get the same perks as Sixt Diamond but with Plat Card:

Flying Blue Platinum and Club 2000
Leading Hotels of the World Leaders Club Unlimited Level

As this upgrades are only subject to availability it is not such a great perk. BTW Sixt is quite generous concerning upgrades even if you just have a Gold or Instant Card. There are reports on FT, that Sixt is not that generous with upgrades at some airport stations like LHR.

I've had Sixt Platinum for some time and am very happy with treatment from Sixt (very good rates, always upgraded, fantastic cars, etc)

I've seen advertisements for Sixt Diamond, and just wondering if this level is attainable through frequent renting (I rent about 50 times a year), or whether it comes just with LH HON, LHW Unlimited,...

Thanks

Where have you seen the advertisements ?

Board of Directors of Sixt have to invite you or you must hold one of the statuses youve mentioned.

Where have you seen the advertisements ?

At the Sixt desk at NCE airport is a sign for Sixt Diamond/Platinum (this is how I first heard of this level) and while at MUC car rental centre a few months ago I heard one agent saying to another "...we have a Diamond booked this morning so make sure we have one S [class Mercedes] available"

Incidentally, I find it interesting that my Platinum card is valid until 01/12!

As far as I know with LHW Unlimited and FB Plat you get 40% discount and a double upgrade but no diamond card. You can only apply for diamond as a HON, at least this is what a SIxt representiv told me.

Could you post more details, please? Which car categorie do you rent? Weekdays or Weekend? What Hertz CDP are you using? How many discount offers your Sixt plat card? (Remember that FB Gold just gets you 30% discount while LH SEN gets 35%) Just saw that you are FB plat so you get 40% discount with Sixt and if you still get better rates with Hertz than you have a really great CDP!

When renting with Hertz I found the LH CDP gives me the best prices. Compared to Sixt smaller cars (compact and intermediate e.g. Golf and Passat etc.) are sometimes cheaper, at least for weekend rentals. But if you rent Mercedes E or S class etc. Sixt is much cheaper, at least for me and both, in France and Germany.

I use the AmericanExpress FB Gold CDG which is 511000 and got better rates on prepaid at LYS next weekend using hertz than trying it on Sixt. and yes, I am plat. from what I heard, the AF/Amex Hertz CDG gives 33% off ... I wanted to rent a car in C or D.

Must be because of prepaid. Actually I never do this. I just checked the prices for a weekday rental at CDG using my LH CDP 635087, yours and Sixt plat (only get 35% discount) and got the best deal with Sixt, second best with LH CDP and last... (so with your 40% off Sixt would be even better ^ )

So as I said, it's much likely because of your prepaid rate and renting a compact that makes Hertz cheaper. But anyway, most important is that you found the best rate for your needs :) ^

I am France based and rent within France, therefor the prepaid is the cheapest rate. but prepaid at hertz means that I can cancel it by calling hertz customer service.

Sixt added service charge of 25€ which made it more expensive

Never found any advantage using prepaid rates. I wasn't aware that you can cancel Hertz prepaid rates for free. But maybe I need to check it in the future and if I'd get better rates ^

And yes you are absolutely right. Using a prepaid Sixt rate is not that good because of the cancelation fees.

the funny think is that you are all right with sixti.
however, there have been changes over the last year.
1. from mai to july there is the world championship in germany. there fore sixti has hardly any cars available which leads me to
2. there are no focus and mondeo with sixti stickers on the door (anymore) there have been in 2004 and beginning of 2005. there may be some smarts with stickers, but sixt is using there regular fleet to supply cars for sixti.

it is the same company, don't forget!
just in case someone is starting to get furious about the platinum rates during the summer. sixt more or less doubled the prices during the championship, even for plat customers.
however, the other rental car companies did that too...

hope this helpes to solve all your confusion

Yes you are right. So it's even more important to check the internet rates and other discounted rates before using any CDP-rate. They only spike the standard rate first and will still offer some good rates in the internet (if you are able to book some days in advance). Otherwise you need to pay this high prices.

Also, which Sixt site is the cheaper to rent through, in your experience?

Both Hyatt Diamond and Starwood Plat will get you Sixt Diamond status. As as the cheapest site to rent through is concerned, I can't give you any answer.

Since signing up with Sixt all of my car rentals have been in the States and I have stuck with Hertz there. Sixt is best in Europe -- especially Germany.

I always book a compact with Sixt and up to now, as a Sixt Plat, never left any Sixt rental station with anything less than a BMW 3-series or Merc B/C Class.. two times even upgraded to a SLK cabrio.

And yepp, usually never using the 35% discount rate, but always one of the special promotions from their websites (including CDW) which always gave me a better price.

I've just made a booking for this special offer "car roulette", 150 Euro+service charge for 1 week incl. CDW "pay VW Polo - get VW Golf"... Will be curious what they'll give me (added automatic as preference.. ), but not expecting too much. Sixt customer service answered my email already that for this offer, the Plat upgrade would not be honored.. But we'll see...
