Hertz - Confused about trying to upgrade

I am renting a midsize car and tried to upgrade. I thought the upgrade would be to a full size. The Hertz rep told me an upgrade would give me a sporty two door. I asked for a full size and was told that's a two car upgrade. I can't rent a sporty two door and hope for an upgrade, since it's too small and inconvenient for three people and luggage. Any suggestions?

If you need a fullsize, then book a fullsize! An upgrade can be nice, but does not always happen. Never speculate on a upgrade.

Never speculate on a upgrade. I've learned that the hard way, so I never count on that. We can all fit in the midsize so I'll stick with that as it saves a little money. It almost makes all the upgrades the Hertz BAP desk gives us useless when you think about it.
