It should give you some ideas about the property. I stayed there twice during that particular trip, so read both parts.

I stay at this property 3 or 4 times a year, and am pretty happy with the service as a Diamond. As a gold member, you will have access to the executive lounge, which is among the best that I have experienced, and the main reason that I stay there. Diamonds are generally upgraded to a suite. The restaurant is unimpressive and not worth the money except for the Sushi and Teppanyaki bars. Service outside the executive floor is hit and miss.

I just read andrzej's report and I can give it an update - the internet is working just fine in the rooms now (expensive though!) or you can use wireless internet for free in the lounge, if I remember correctly.

I really enjoyed this hotel. I am a Diamond, but from what others have said it sounds like you'll be treated very well as a Gold. I got one of my best room upgrades in 4 years as a Diamond here.

Keep in mind that the hotel is in SANDTON which is an upscale suburb of Johannesberg. Some may see that as a good thing! But the downside is that you are an expensive taxi ride from anything BUT Sandton. You are close to the new Nelson Mandela Center though, where there are some decent restaurants, shopping, and a movie theater in the adjoining mall. It is walking distance but the hotel advised me to take a taxi ($6 or 7) after dark as it may not be a safe walk. There is also a free shuttle from the hotel to the center.
