I smell something in the works. Big time. And July 15th sounds like the big day.

An electronic voucher for future travel in the amount of $50 will be issued for each ticket that is eligible under the guarantee. Vouchers are transferable. Vouchers may only be redeemed online at usairways.com. Vouchers may be redeemed starting July 15, 2005.

But reading further I also see a possible negative:

Upgrades may not be used on a ticket purchased with the voucher

Nonetheless, something's on its way.

So basically, if I want to save $50 on a later ticket, I have to go dig around for the rest of the day to find a lower fare offered by someone else? Why wouldn't I just shop around in advance? I guess this is basically a reason not to do that. I anticipate they'll pay very few of these....not because of ironclad pricing, but because it's too much work to catch them.

You get a REFUND of the fare difference PLUS a e-voucher of $50 for the next flight as gratis.

Expedia and Travelocity offer some wacky routings sometimes that usairways.com doesn't bring up by default that price out good. This would be a great time to have the "Low price guarantee" option available.

US should be able to match ANYONE that sells a published US fare, plain and simple. IMO its their booking engine that sucks most of the times and causes the pricing issue.

Guarantee applies only on itineraries wholly operated and marketed by US Airways, US Airways Express or US Airways Shuttle. Flights operated or marketed by our codeshare partners (e.g. United Airlines, Lufthansa, Spanair, etc.) or other carriers do not qualify.

BINGO!! That's where they get you! UA codeshare flights operated by US consistently have a lower fare for my travel needs. Does this mean that UA will no longer be allowed to lower the price for the same flights now?

I bought two tickets last week that were cheaper on other sites than USAirways.com. I then called the web help desk and they told me if they were that price to go ahead and book them. I bought a non stop ticket to dayton for 235 on expedia from DCA and the same flights on the website were $405. Go figure I also bought a one way ticket SRQ-DCA and it was half the price on orbitz as usairways.com. Too bad these were last week I would have easily qualified for this promotion.

I dont get the "no upgrades" rule. Something is odd about this - maybe on July 15, we'll find out what.

It's the ghost of BBB.

Likely just a condition of this specific voucher. Just like "Vouchers can be applied towards a U.S. or Canadian coach itinerary that is at least $100 in value, roundtrip, and for 1 person traveling." Regular vouchers can be redeemed system-wide.

But holy T&C, Batman. That's just nutty.

This seems kind of strange. I routinely get better prices on US metal and Flight #'s from other booking engines. I typically use the US' website as a starting point.

Air Fares are continuously changing. If you buy a ticket elsewhere and when US gets around to checking it (can't imagine them doing this on a prompt basis), there's a very good chance that the fare would have changed. Also, all the seats in a certain fare class would have been taken resulting in that fare not being available.

The idea seems nice, but the implementation will most likely be problematic.

... but I'm excited about this!

Although it doesn't happen 100% of the time, I often find the same flights for less money on Orbitz or Travelocity.

I'm sure I'll be able to take advantage of this in the near future. ^

Maybe it has already caused problems--

Thus the website (currently down) may never be brought back up.

Would be a good way to avoid payment.

Cheers!

One thing that may be helpful to you if you are shopping around for fares. I have SideStep installed on my computer. Everytime I search the US website, Sidestep searches all kinds of booking engines and gives me the US Airways fares. Quite often they are cheaper! When you select the US fare from SideStep it redirects you to whichever engine is offering the fare. I think this might be especially helpful after this guarantee kicks in!

I need to go from ALB to SAT in September. I would like to buy on the USAirways site. The exact same itineary is over $100 cheaper on Orbitz, and as these are codeshare United flights it is another price but also cheaper on UA. All on the exact same plane and bought today....this is what's so frustrating

Try kayak.com instead of Sidestep, too. Apparently, Kayak is using a low price search engine which displays airline flights lower than what the airlines can offer due to how the segments are pieced and priced together. [SideSteps' new web version is rather snappy, though.]

I booked a ticket today. Had found the same fare on travelocity for $25 per ticket cheaper. I emailed usair the "screenshots" they asked for. They told me they could not confirm the availability!! They did get back to me in one hour. They also said I had to do everything the same day which I had done!
I emailed them back that I had found them the same day and reported it the same day. I asked them to please match or cancel my ticket so I could book thru Travelocity. They emailed me instructions on how to cancel!
I don't think this policy is worth much at all.

Well, this is strange. The first respondent to my claim basically told me to cancel and book at Travelocity. The same day I then went to Travelocity and the flights were still available. However, there were only 2 seats available. By the time I booked they were not available. So I then went back to USAir and told them I wasn't going to cancel, but I wasn't happy.
Another respondent then told me okay, that was fine, and that YES they would give me the difference as a credit to my credit card and send me two vouchers. So wierd. I guess it all depends who reads your claim/email.

Buying a multi-city ticket to the Caribbean, I found a US fare on Orbitz that was $24 cheaper than on USAirways.com. Knowing that most airlines now have a website fare guarantee, I looked for USAirways'. Sure enough, they have one, so I bought my ticket on USAirways.com and then went to fill out the form.

I kind of wish I hadn't bothered, since the USAirways form is kind of a pain in the butt. It was a learning experience though -- I've never taken electronic webpage snapshots before! A few hours later, I got a message saying US would review my claim and get back to me in a couple of days. Of course, that's AFTER the 24 hour cancellation rule for tickets bought on USAirways.com.

Hopefully, it will work out and I'll get my modest refund and $50 voucher, but I don't think I'd take the chance if the fare differential was more significant. I'd just buy the cheaper fare elsewhere.

Anyone know if the guarantee is affected by the merger? I'm finding fares on Orbitz for RDU-LGW in November and December that are significantly cheaper than on usairways.com for the same flights.

Thanks.
