Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Am I just wasting CX's time and money...?

Back in february I took advantage of an asiamiles promotion for double asiamiles for travelling BA WT+ anytime during 2005 and booked seats SIN - LHR - SIN in November.

The cunning theory was that this gets me 29,740miles and WT+ can be MFU'd for 30K miles... Net result = round trip in Club for S$2300 (About £750) + 260miles

Of course real life is somewhat different and I am currently on the daily phone call to CX in Hong Kong to check upgrade availability anytime in Oct/Nov with the standard negative answer. Thing is, checking the BA CRS rather than their own seems to take at least 5 x longer for the computer to respond (you can hear them tapping the keyboard in the background on the phone..) and to check for 2 months makes for a 15-20 minute phone call every day...

I am actually starting to feel a bit sheepish about this, (Heck, WT+ isnt too dreadfull even for a 6ft 5" specimen of the species like myself..) and feel like I am simply wasting 20 minutes of their staff time every day plus running up their phone bill as I am calling international on their toll free line...

Anyone else have similar qualms about this or should I be more thick skinned and just keep plugging away at it.. even though I think my chances are getting a result are increasingly slim.

BA seems to be keeping all the upgrades through to Australia, and any cancellations aren't released again. So there is no point in checking every day, except there is a magic day when BA does release upgrade inventory, but probably that is within 21 days of the flight date. Above based on observation, sadly I don't have any inside info, but I will bet that you get no result until September or October.

Not sure if BA uses same inventory management for MFUs as for award tickets, but I have been visiting their website daily for the past two months and have noticed changes every 3-4 days in Club availability for the BKK-LHR and SIN-LHR route (although I am looking at a departure period range of two months).

Actually I find BA's Z and U Inventory (Business and First Award and Upgrade Award inventory) to be pretty good compare to QF.

I just claimed a Z Class ticket to BKK for Dec.

MFU is booked into the same fare class (U or Z typically) as straight redemption bookings. Award availability on the kangaroo routes is patchy at best, I haven't much experience of LHR-SIN but fly LHR-BKK a lot. I have never successfully managed a MFU on this route, albeit I have never been that bothered, since I always booked in J. From recent checks availability to BKK has been better than I can ever remember, so you might just get lucky.
