:) Just food for thought. :D
I normally stick with * for my itineraries wherever possible, however a recent itinerary forced me onto Delta, and since I hadn't flown them in 3-4 years, I decided to give it a try.
Imagine my complete and utter surprise when the attendants began walking throughout the coach cabin with almost the EXACT same snack basket that passes for first class food in US now. Sun chips, granola bars, animal crackers, chocolate sticks, honey peanuts, etc. And it was FREE.
Granted, the coach seats were the same crappy coach seats as every other big airline except United and the ocassional American, but I definitely did a double take and was concerned that their 1st class attendant had gotten lost...........

Well.....DL only offers that snack basket on flights over 90 mins in Y vs. all flights in F on US. Also US F gets at least some kind of meal on flights over 700ish miles vs. 3 1/2 hours on DL in F and 5 hours in Y. US sells bigger snack boxes on flights over 2 1/2 hours in Y and sandwiches/salads on flights to DEN and west in Y. US doesn't. F in DL on a transcon is better than US transcon F. DL serves meals - lousy and all platsic vs. IFC in US transcon F.

I more often than not have gotten the "due to the short duration of this flight, there will be no beverage or snack service" on South Florida to Atlanta flights (at least 90 minutes). I'll take US's F any day over DL Y.

I guess I should have clarified, I didn't intend it to be a "move all your business to Delta" posting because I am pretty happy with US and will keep my business there.
However, I do think it is a very nice feature of Delta's product that US has in F, and definitely DOES NOT have in coach.

On a similar note, I remember flying Air Canada once, around 97 or 98, from Montreal to Toronto. Really nice 767 (was surprised to find foot rests in Coach). Anyway, their flight attendants brought a snack basked around (twice!) and served the full can of soda on a flight that might have been 90 minutes. I wondered if AC was subsidized, but no. Turns out that was the standard of service, maybe still. I was pleasantly surprised.

Even in 2000 they served a hot omelte and bacon breakfast on the hour long YYZ-PHL flight in Y.

I don't know if you can say all US flights. I flew MCO-PIT and back last week -- Monday and Wednesday -- on 8:30ish flights there and back. I got the fruit and bread "breakfast", but no snack basket. :(

On flights with snack or meal they don't always pass out the snack basket. Did PHL-MCO r/t. Southbound automatically handed out chips - northbound asked if you wanted chips then passed snack basket. But the snack basket stuff is there, all you have to do is ask.

Funny how we get excited by snack baskets. Last night, I flew F on AA, RDU-MIA, flight time: a whopping & very long 94 minutes. I had warm nuts in a a ramekin, pre-dinner cocktail in real glass, a very nice pasta dish along with warm rolls and salad. Dessert was a tasty cheesecake. Of course, the red wine was served in real glassware as well.
I love that AA and CO still offer the "full-service" even on shorter flights. ^

What did you pay for that flight vs. a similar US flight? Don't get me wrong, if the prices are close that's great. But paying $500 for warm nuts - no thank you. I'll take the money I have saved and stay at a better hotel.

Flew them last week - now it's food-for-purchase. Various items from chocolate bars/chips ($1) to larger meals ($7 or so).... We did however get a couple of biscuits free on the 1:20h flight, as well as a round of drink refills...

Flights over 4:30 have a full (complimentary) hot meal in coach. And as with all AC flights, newspapers and free (take-home) headsets. And free booze in Y on non-North American flights. AC still has a good product and once the fleet standardization is complete, will be heads and tails above most of their American peers. Even the Embraers will have PTVs.
