Traveling in 2 weeks to Copenhagen and Stockholm for vacation with the Mrs. Holding reservations right now at the Weber in Copenhagen and Continental in Stockholm.
Right now rooms at other locations are available in the city. If you were looking for best location as a tourist in the city and best amenities, would you stay at these Scandics or switch to others?

Scandic Continental is good for location and convenience. I have stayed at several other Scandics and the Hilton in Stockholm, but I generally return to the Scandic Continental since that's often where the Swedish justice-related officials stay too.

Scandic Webers is good for location and convenience, but the "rooms" and "facilities" are more dated (i.e., not necessarily bright and in great condition).

I liked the Scandic Copenhagen -- rooms are somewhat dated, but is a high-rise and has less noise than the Webers. Virtually same area as the Webers, but better breakfast from what I understand.

In April - was booked for 9 days; GREAT BREAKFAST but it got crowded. GREAT RESTAURANT - a memorable dinner. BUT THE WORST BEDS - moved to Marriott after second night. This flagship Scandic only two blocks from the Weber. The high-rise Scandic used to be a Sheraton. Good luck...

I have to agree... the bed was HORRIBLE. I hate to say this, but the Copenhagen Marriott is fantastic. I wish they had a Hilton hotel around that area. The airport Hilton in Kastrup is too far away from everything and VERY expensive.

I stay at the Scandic Malman. Rooms are basic and can vary is size. Breakfast is great. and wireless is available on select floors. the hotel can be noisey due to the area but a lot of action in the area for after hours.

You are always getting a good deal when you use points at a Scandic though. I would whine about the bed too though if I were paying for an actual room. If you stay at Hilton any amount of time or do some promos you've got a few nights at a Scandic -- at 10,000 a night in one of the most expensive countries in the world, I'll deal with the beds.

The Scandic Hotel Kramer in Malmo is a nice hotel and I do it quite often since it's nicer than the Scandics in Copenhagen and priced better than the Hilton Copenhagen (at the airport). And with trains running every 20 minutes for the entire day and a good part of the night, Malmo works well for me.

In Stockholm I'm partial to the Continental. It's fairly centrally located and there is LOTS of public transportation available right outside the door.

The Scandic Contiental's location is indeed superb. Note that the exercise room is not very good, if that is imporatnt to you. The Diamond doscount of 25%, coupled withthe 100SEK/day vouchers are a real plus.

Ok, so sounds like Stockholm is a good choice and Copenhagen a toss-up between the Contintental and Webers. Two more questions: are the beds less bad at the Webers than the Continental in Copenhagen, and do any of the three hotels offer high speed internet (wired or wifi)?

Not discussing aspects about the hotel other than the rooms, the Webers' beds were ok even in 2002. It was the bathrooms (dark and small) and the noise from "girly-bar" patrons across the alley/street that were the "issue" with some rooms.

All the Scandics I've been to as of late seem to have Wi-Fi. You just need to ask for a password/login at the front desk.

I am probably dreaming but is the Wi-Fi *FREE* at any Scandics? I am going slowly broke at the 20-25 euros/day at the Hilton/Marriott/Sheraton business hotels.

Every Scandic I've been to this year has given it to me for free. For example, Scandic Kramer was free last month (and has been since they got Wi-Fi there).

Scandics include breakfast and apparently free wi-fi too. No dream. :)

Now that sounds great. Do you happen to know if the Hilton web site is up to date on whether they have wifi? The Hilton Diamond desk called the Webers that said that only some rooms had high speed, and the web site claims that both the Copenhagen Continental and the Stockholm Continental have them, but the agent had trouble confirming that in the reservation system.

Just trying to decide whether to switch hotels in Copenhagen (and with a 2 block difference and the same number of Hhonors points for each), one having high speed over the other would definitely tilt things one way or the other. If both Copenhagen locations have them, I'll probably leave things the way I have them.

Well am now here at the Webers. Bed isn't bad. Wifi works great. Location is fine. But.... I haven't slept in a room this small since I was a freshman in college. Is this what I have to look forward to in Stockholm. I'm diamond, but also using points, so not sure how much of change I will get, but is it even worth it? They did say that only some rooms had wifi, is that the tradeoff? Can't wait for the reaction of the Mrs. when she arrives tomorrow...

I am going to Copenhagen Weber in October. Can't find anything about parking, i.e. availability/cost?

I usually stay at the CPH airport Hilton, which IMHO is superb and has been very good with benefits for Golds and Diamonds: always upgraded to the tower level no matter what the rate and always received a "welcome" tray delivered 30 minutes after arrival containing soft drinks, beer and snacks/chokolate. But with the sinking dollar it is just too much and too inconveniently located when incoming and on personal travel, especially when having a car which adds $30 to the daily cost in the airport!!

The best rate I can find on CPH Hilton is a non-refundable pay-as-you-reserve at $250, $300 for a standard reservation vs. $140 standard reservation for the Scandic Weber.

I did not see anything about parking. Given how close it (and the Continental for that matter) are to the central station, we never even thought about having a car. I do not remember seeing garages nearby, but with Tivoli also right there, it must mean I wasn't looking for them.

Don't expect the Diamond treatment at the Webers though. They were nice there, but nothing was done differently for me, other than getting me a room on a renovated floor. You may have better luck at the Continental.

Go to the Scandic website, look up the hotel, then "find out more", then "travel details & arrival information". Parking is listed on that page.

For the Scandic Webers:

http://www.scandic-hotels.com/property/1101_PreparingToVisit.jsp?hid=11105270

"The hotel has no private parking. Guests may use the streets around the hotel where parking costs DKK12 per hour between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM weekdays, on Saturdays 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, on Sundays at no charge. We also cooperate with Centrum Parkering/Q8 in Nyrupsgade, about 200 metres from the hotel; Price DKK70 per day. You can buy tickets at the hotel and have them charged to your hotel bill."

For the closeby Scandic Copenhagen:

http://www.scandic-hotels.com/property/1101_PreparingToVisit.jsp?hid=11105298

"The hotel has space for a vast number of cars in a parking basement a few hundred metres from the hotel. Fixed price of DKK 80 per day."

As of today, www.xe.com shows DKK 80 to be a bit under $13.

Btw, remember, award nights at Scandic are always only 10k per night. (Have you got a better use for your HHonors points :) ?)

Thanks for the update. I am going to Copenhagen in June 2006 and will probably stay at one of the two Scandic's because it is only 10,000 points per night (HH). I think Webers is the place with the Library bar on the first floor that is usually a happening spot.

The Marriott is great but $$$.

While you are in Copenhagen go to a resturaunt called the Copenhagen Cafe off the walking street. The hotel should be able to tell you where it is.

It's certainly not in the Scandic Webers. :(

This post served us well as we planned our recent holiday in Stockholm, so I just wanted to share the outcome of our stay. Since the Scandic Continental was booked, we opted for the Scandic Park for our 5 reward nights. It was our first Scandic experience, but we were pleasantly surprised. A few key points...

Status : No automatic recognition of Diamond status (note : these were reward nights). When I inquired, the clerk offered us free fruit from a bin marked 10 sek / piece, but said that no upgraded rooms were available (I didn't press the issue).

Room : Better than I expected after reading 'basic' all over the forum. I suppose the room was 'basic', but I found it very comfortable, tastefully decorated, and of decent size by european standards. Ours had a full bathtub.

Breakfast buffet : outstanding -- my husband looked forward to it every morning (herring 3 different ways, 8 types of breads, eggs, bacon, sausage, cold meats, cheeses, fruit, 6 cereals, 4 yogurts, a wide array of garnishes and spices).

Neighborhood : quiet, upscale, surrounded by many embassies and overlooking a nice park. Easy walking access to everything (but we like to walk). About 15 min walk from Central station.

IT : we were on holiday so didn't pay much attention to these facilities, but there were 3 pc's with free internet access in the lobby, of which one even allowed free printing. don't know about the wireless access...

Although I have no other Scandic points of reference, I'd recommend the Scandic Park. It beats every Hampton (and even some Hiltons and Doubletrees) I've ever visited. As many have said, a fantastic reward night value!
