** Please move if in wrong place **

Good afternoon from the UK! Recently discovered FT and have found a world I did not know existed!!

I have 13,832 Delta SkyMiles which I'm unlikely to use before they expire in December. Is there any way I can convert them to Virgin Flying Club miles? (We are likely to use Virgin ths year and we would then have enough for an upgrade at least one way on the Shanghai routes) I tried Delta Customer Care but have never had much luck getting a reply!

Failing the above, any ideas to utilise the Delta miles rather than lose them?

Many thanks for your help

Unless any of the wise folks here know better, the simple answer is... I don't think so.....

Transferring miles between airlines can sometimes be done by converting them to hotel points eg Hilton, or similar, and then back again to the new airline, BUT the rate of exchange is not over generous to say the least. Given the relatively small amount you have, I would expect too much.

If you go to www.V-Flyer.com there is a conversion table for all sorts of different points Direct link here (http://www.v-flyer.com/converter.asp?click=40)

Also, having just had a quick look at the tables, it shows you can convert TO Delta skymiles, but not FROM them :(

call virgin and ask them. all of my miles for the delta shuttle are applied to my flying club account, so i see no reason why you would not be able to convert skymiles to flying club miles.

There's one simple reason, I'm afraid - it's a completely different process.

The crediting of miles is a different agreement between airlines than the "trading" of miles. VS allow you to credit DL flights to your Flying Club account, but not transfer them across.

I think you'll find you're SOL on this one. :(

Steve, in terms of what else you can spend the 13k on, try the skymiles website on delta.com - SOME examples:

LOADS of magazine subscriptions... https://delta.mpmvp.com/magazine/choose.asp

or a couple of internal upgrade awards @ 5k? http://www.delta.com/skymiles/use/delta_awards/index.jsp

If you check the conversion tool at http://www.webflyer.com, they don't even list DL as a source option. So I'm guessing there's no way to get miles out of DL to any other affinity program.

If you're primarily worried about expiration, note that any activity will extend your account to the end of the year 3 years hence. So if you have a Dec 2005 expiration and you buy a magazine for a friend here in the US (since you're in the UK), that will extend your miles until Dec 2008. Looks like the cheapest mag is 300 miles. Pretty good deal to get another 3 years.

Thanks all. Good idea about the magazine - I'll speak to my friend in Baltimore and see which she would like!

I did a flight last year on Virgin and was able to get credit on both Virgin AND Delta. Was that a "bank error" in my favor? Delta skymiles are worthless.

Yes, it was an error - they should have only credited to one. ;)
