After a lackluster stay at the 4 Points in Allentown this past weekend that was full of problems, the latest issue is getting the stay to post along with points credit.
We had booked an excellent package at SPG.com for $99 that included a room, strawberries and champagne upon arrival, and breakfast for two (room service or at restaurant).
Upon arrival, the hotel did not know of this package and were it not for the Reservation Confirmation printout that listed these rate plan elements, we would have been in trouble. The strawberries were left on the front desk counter prior to our room delivery with customers about to grab them as they stood at the desk, while the bottle of champagne was delivered without the benefit of glasses or an ice bucket.
Then there were tipping issues that are the subject of another current thread.
And it did seem that the Pantene shampoo bottle was only half filled; the subject of another thread. Perhaps it was my imagination playing tricks.
The friendly front desk clerk issued us with the wrong type of breakfast coupon, and the room service breakfast the following morning went missing. Though told breakfast would take 20 minutes (there is a 30 minute service guarantee or its free), after 50 minutes of waiting, I inquired to discover that the reason our food was not delivered was because they forgot to take down our room number!
It is hard to be upset at this hotel though, as they were all very friendly--but disorganized. We were invited back for a later stay, but there are more up to date hotels in the area-- namely the Hilton Garden Inn and the Staybridge Suites.
But, it was no surprise that our stay did not post.
Today, ringing up the Platinum/SMS desk, I was informed that Package Rates no longer qualify for Starpoints. This is news to me.
I was told this was reflected in the Starwood T&C, which I immediately checked and could find no such reference.
The SMS agent told me that was how she was trained, and mentioned that several times.
William, can you confirm that hotel package (not group) rates offered at SPG.com do or do not earn Starpoints/stay credit? Until I see a revision in the T&C at SPG.com, I shall assume that they do.
Thanks in advance.
